Wrexham’s tour of Australia and New Zealand has come to an end, and while results may not have gone their way, the attendance figures from the three games are incredible.

Wrexham may have conquered North America already thanks to their connection to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Now, the Red Dragons have made their mark Down Under, with Wrexham’s pre-season tour seeing Phil Parkinson’s men take on Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC, and Wellington Phoenix.

Wrexham are planning a friendly against Groningen next, but before we move on from the tour across the world, it’s time to reflect on just how successful the venture was from a commercial perspective.

Wrexham pull in over 100,000 fans during pre-season tour

We knew the attendance figures for the tour were going to be pretty big. Against Sydney FC alone, Wrexham had over 40,000 fans in the Allianz Stadium.

Now, official figures have been released for the tour overall, and it turns out Wrexham brought in crowds totalling 102,661 across the three games in Australia and New Zealand.

Over 37,000 fans packed in to watch Wrexham’s pre-season opener against Melbourne, while more than 25,000 watched Wrexham versus Wellington.

According to our resident finance expert Adam Williams, this tour will have earned Wrexham around £30m, and it’s all part of the long-term vision put together by Ryan Reynolds.

Wrexham will surely tour Asia next summer

Clearly, Wrexham now have the market cornered in America and Australia, so the next stop in their mission for world domination must surely be Asia.

The US is fascinated by Wrexham, which is understandable, and there’s really very little the Wrexham project needs to do to maintain that as long as Rob and Ryan are around.

By bringing their favourite players and landmarks like The Turf pub to Australia, Wrexham gave fans on the other side of the world a taste of North East Wales.

Now, if they can break the Asian market and get a following there, Wrexham would be an unstoppable commercial behemoth.
