Sam Dalby scores ‘really good’ goal for Dundee United as Wrexham future hangs in balance

Wrexham striker Sam Dalby is looking to impress away from the club this season and endured a mixed evening on Wednesday night.

Wrexham’s attacking ranks have been through some changes of late.

Modou Faal joined Wrexham from West Bromwich Albion on transfer deadline day, penning a permanent deal at the STōK Cae Ras.

Phil Parkinson has just signed another forward though with Wrexham signing Jon Dadi Bodvarsson on a free transfer.

Bodvarsson has been brought in after Jack Marriott was ruled out for four months and Steven Fletcher picked up a knee injury.

This comes after Wrexham decided to loan out not one, not two but three strikers on transfer deadline day.

Sam Dalby scores in Dundee United defeat

As Faal arrived, Billy Waters returned to Halifax Town and Jake Bickerstaff headed to Altrincham.

Those two forwards have headed back to the National League but Sam Dalby headed up to Scotland with Dundee United.

Dalby admitted that Fletcher approved his move to Dundee United and he is ultimately looking to make a big impact at Tannadice.

Dalby started up front for Dundee United on Wednesday night, featuring against Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.

The Wrexham loanee brought Dundee level at 1-1, adjusting his body brilliantly to guide a header into the net from Kristijan Trapanovski’s cross.

This was Dalby’s second goal for Dundee United, but he was on the losing end as Motherwell found a winner and secured a 2-1 victory.

Dalby surely leaving Wrexham in 2025

Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin told The Courier that Dalby’s goal was ‘really good’, but just couldn’t believe that his side failed to win the game.

Dalby at least seems to have impressed and the striker may well be playing for a future in Scotland.

The 24-year-old may not have been the most prolific striker for Wrexham but he was always a hard-working centre forward when called upon by Phil Parkinson.

Dalby seemingly had no role to play in League One though and Wrexham were happy to let him go and play games with Dundee United.

A return to starting action seems unlikely – especially with Wrexham going well in League One and aiming even higher.

Dalby’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and barring an unknown extension being triggered, it seems that Dalby’s long-term future lies away from the STōK Cae Ras.
