Mark Robins has heaped praise on three Wrexham players, including Callum Doyle, ahead of the Dragons’ Championship clash with his Stoke City side.

Wrexham travel to Stoke City for a Championship fixture at 3pm BST on Saturday, October 18.

Sam Parkin has predicted the score of the meeting and is backing Robins’ men to come out on top.

Stoke are 5th in the table going into the game, but their manager is still wary of the threat Wrexham’s top stars can pose.

Stoke City manager Mark Robins praises Wrexham’s Callum Doyle, Ben Sheaf and Dom Hyam

Speaking to the media pre-match, as per Stoke-on-Trent Live, Robins singled out Callum Doyle, Ben Sheaf and Dom Hyam when discussing the ‘really good’ players at Phil Parkinson’s disposal.

He said: “They’ve got some really good players in there, some of which I’ve had at previous clubs.

“Dominic Hyam, for instance, who was brilliant, I signed him as a 21-year-old, had him a long, long time before he went to Blackburn Rovers.

“Callum Doyle, on loan from Manchester City, another one who’s a really, really good player and Ben Sheaf who was captain at Coventry for a period of time as well.

“I know those three really well amongst the others who are clearly big names in Championship football and have played at a higher level and certainly in international football as well.”

Said trio were part of a £33m summer transfer spend at the Racecourse Ground, which has seen some previously important players moved on or lose their places in the eleven.

Lewis Brunt has impressed when featuring this term, but Doyle now looks to be Parkinson’s favoured option in the left-centre-back role.

And unlike most of Wrexham’s signings under Reynolds and Mac, the former Manchester City centre-back could actually be sold for a decent transfer fee down the line.

Callum Doyle signing shows change in Wrexham’s recruitment strategy

In previous seasons, Parkinson has primarily opted to sign older talent with plenty of experience in higher divisions.

However, as shown by the fact that Wrexham only made £150,000 from player sales this summer, those types of players have very little sell-on value.

Doyle, on the other hand, only recently turned 22, so even if he remains in North Wales for the next five years, the Dragons would be able to recoup some of the initial £5m fee they paid for him.

But it is also worth mentioning that Man City inserted a sell-on clause in the deal for the Englishman, which is believed to be 25%
