Wrexham’s first campaign back in the second tier of English football is shaping up to be an interesting one.
Already, some major decisions have been made this summer that will have an impact on the 2025/26 Championship season.
Sheffield Wednesday are under a transfer embargo, and their financial issues are depleting their squad going into the new season.
Wrexham are targeting Sheffield Wednesday players, and it’s still unclear if some of those names could leave the Owls for free after owner Dejphon Chansiri failed to pay wages.
Meanwhile, Hull City were hit with an embargo this month as well but they have already made a few signings this summer.
Another Championship club also has financial problems that could lead to a points deduction.

Wrexham Championship rivals expected points deduction
Reports in May claimed Leicester City could receive a 12-point deduction ahead of 2025/26.
It comes after the Foxes, who were relegated from the top flight last term, are being charged by the Premier League for breaching the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) regarding their accounts up to 2023/24.
Now, Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett has provided an update on the Foxes this week.
Speaking live on Sky Sports News, he said that Leicester are expected to be hit with a nine-point deduction.
Wrexham in great financial position for first Championship season
While a number of clubs in the second tier are suffering, Wrexham are in a great financial position.
The impact of Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds has grown the club’s revenue a great deal in the last several years, including a record turnover in 2023/24.
The Championship revenue Wrexham can expect is on the higher side for teams in the second tier, discounting those receiving parachute payments.
A £25m transfer budget was mooted earlier this summer as well, though the Red Dragons have spent very little of it so far.
