What seemed like an ambitious link early in the summer now looks slightly more realistic. Wrexham are trying to sign released Manchester United player Christian Eriksen on a free transfer.

Christian Eriksen has become one of the hottest properties on the free agent market this summer. The 33-year-old Danish international was let go by Manchester United at the end of last season and soon after Wrexham were linked with a move for Eriksen.

But the link quickly died down and many believed it to be overly ambitious from the Dragons. Then last week, reports revealed that Wrexham have actually held talks to sign Eriksen.

In fact, the player’s agent even failed to rule out a potential move to the Racecourse this summer, with Phil Parkinson also confirming Wrexham have spoken with Eriksen and now many fans online are talking about Wrexham potentially signing the Dane.

Wrexham transfer target Christian Eriksen’s record vs Swansea City is incredible

Eriksen has enjoyed a prolonged and illustrious career in football. So far, he has represented the likes of Ajax, Spurs, Brentford, Manchester United and Inter Milan in his career and now looks set for another exciting chapter, potentially in North Wales with Parkinson’s Wrexham. In his career, Eriksen has played 310 games in the Premier League whilst racking up 144 caps for Denmark.

During his time in the Premier League, he has proven to be one of the most creative players with 55 goals and 81 assists, mostly coming with Spurs. And it is Wrexham’s Welsh rivals Swansea City whom Eriksen has the best goals and assists record against in his career.

Of all the teams he’s faced, he’s scored the most goals against Swansea, with eight to his name, which is three more than the next team he’s proved most prolific against. Eriksen also has five assists against the Swans, with 13 total goals and assists making Swansea the team he’s proved most influential against. On top of that, he’s never lost a game against Swansea.

Christian Eriksen sunk the Swans back in 2016

After Wrexham won promotion from League One last season, the Dragons will now play Swansea City for the first time in more than 20 years. It will be Wrexham’s only Welsh derby in the Championship next season, after fellow Welsh rivals Cardiff City were relegated from the Championship.

And should Wrexham sign Eriksen this summer then Parkinson won’t only have a talisman in the side, but he’ll also have someone who knows where the back of the net is when playing Swansea City.

With such a strong record against Swansea, Eriksen would surely relish the chance to face the Swans again next season. And he’ll no doubt have fond memories of a game between Spurs and Swansea City back in December 2016.

Spurs won the game 5-0 with Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Eriksen all on the scoresheet, with Kane and Eriksen scoring two each.

Wrexham’s first game against Swansea City next season is on December 20th.
