In a cagey affair in Wales on Saturday, Wrexham got the job done against one of their promotion rivals with a 1-0 win over Stockport County.
Wrexham fans at the Racecourse Ground may not have seen many goals, but they got their fair share of entertainment value with penalty claims, Stockport anger, and a massive three points.
In the end, it was Jay Rodriguez’s first Wrexham goal that made all the difference, with the veteran striker slotting home on the rebound after his 29th minute penalty was saved.
| Pos | Team | Pld | W | D | L | GD | Pts |
| 1 | Birmingham City | 36 | 25 | 8 | 3 | 35 | 83 |
| 2 | Wrexham | 38 | 22 | 8 | 8 | 22 | 74 |
| 3 | Wycombe Wanderers | 37 | 20 | 11 | 6 | 28 | 71 |
| 4 | Charlton Athletic | 38 | 19 | 9 | 10 | 14 | 66 |
| 5 | Stockport County | 38 | 18 | 11 | 9 | 18 | 65 |
| 6 | Huddersfield Town | 37 | 18 | 7 | 12 | 18 | 61 |
The win takes Phil Parkinson’s side three points clear of Wycombe Wanderers now after 38 games, with the Chairboys dropping to third place having played one less game.

Wrexham won it the hard way against Stockport County
It was a record-breaking 1-0 win, with Wrexham now having the most single-goal-to-nil victories in League One history. That was their tenth of the campaign, and they even bagged another two in the EFL Trophy, too.
It may not be pretty, but it’s getting the job done for the Red Dragons, and that’s all that matters to the folks on the Fearless In Devotion podcast. But, they also had a warning about Stockport County that is worth heeding.
After the game, they tweeted: “That’s enough Stockport County bantering for one night. We might yet see them again this season – let’s not take anything for granted.
“Grinding out wins in a tough league is an art form Wrexham have perfected. It’s beautifully ugly and worth it for those moments when they come. Ymlaen [Forward].”
Indeed, grinding out tight wins like this is what many describe as the stuff of champions. Sadly, Birmingham City have run away with the league this season, so there’ll be no title for Wrexham to claim, but if they keep plugging away to grab three points each week, they’ll be heading for the Championship along with Tom Brady’s Blues.
They’ll certainly be hoping so, anyway, as we can imagine Stockport County would relish the chance to get revenge on Wrexham in the play-offs.

Wrexham’s run-in includes just one opponent they should fear
Elsewhere this weekend, the biggest threat facing Wrexham, Charlton Athletic, fell to a surprising defeat to Peterborough to lose pace with the leading pack at the top of the table.
Still, Nathan Jones’ outfit will still be the toughest challenge to await Wrexham as they push towards the end of the season.
Indeed, Wrexham’s final run-in doesn’t look too bad on paper. Of the eight remaining games, five teams are in the bottom half of the table as things stand, with Cambridge, Burton Albion, and Bristol Rovers all fighting relegation.
| Game | Wrexham | Wycombe |
| 38 | Lincoln City (H) – 29/03/25 | |
| 39 | Exeter City (A) – 29/03/25 | Shrewsbury (H) – 01/04/25 |
| 40 | Cambridge United (A) – 01/04/25 | Reading (A) – 05/04/25 |

| 42 | Wigan Athletic (A) – 12/04/25 | Stevenage (H) – 12/04/25 |
| 43 | Bristol Rovers (H) – 18/04/25 | Bolton (A) – 18/04/25 |
| 44 | Blackpool (A) – 21/04/25 | Charlton (H) – 21/04/25 |
| 45 | Charlton (H) – 26/04/25 | Leyton Orient (A) – 26/04/25 |
| 46 | Lincoln City (A) – 03/05/25 | Stockport County (H) – 03/05/25 |
That Charlton clash on the 26th April has potential to be huge and very decisive in the automatic promotion race. But, Wrexham will take heart in the fact that Wycombe also have to face the Addicks a few days before that.
