Wrexham are struggling on the goal front this season compared to their promotion rivals.
Wrexham drew 2-2 with Cambridge United on Saturday, seeing them slip down to third in the League One table.
Despite conceding twice, the Red Dragons still boast the best defensive record in the third tier with just 13 conceded in 20.
However, at the other end of the pitch, it’s fair to say the Welsh outfit are still some way off their rivals.
Despite playing one more match than Birmingham City and two more than Wycombe Wanderers, Wrexham have scored considerably less.
| Team (games played) | League One goals (2024/25 |
| Wycombe (19) | 43 |
| Birmingham (18) | 34 |
| Wrexham (20) | 30 |
A key reason for this is their strikers underperforming on the goal front, with Paul Mullin struggling the most.
Mullin came off the bench against Cambridge but once again failed to find the back of the net.

Wrexham fans send message to Paul Mullin
The 30-year-old has now scored just once in 18 League One matches in 2024/25.
Granted, a lot of those appearances have come off the bench, but it’s still pretty concerning.
Following the Cambridge tie, Mullin sent a message to Wrexham fans, tweeting: “Frustrating end to the afternoon. I heard you. It means a lot”
Now, Red Dragons supporters have taken to the comment section of that post to show their support for the out-of-form striker.
One fan wrote: “Big period coming up Mulls, stay healthy and we will see you in Bristol.”
A second added: “Don’t worry about scoring. Just be the best you can be on the pitch. Look at the fans behind you. If we’re not stressed don’t sweat it. It will come.”
“Mate, you could never score another goal for us and you’d still walk on water. We ain’t ever gonna turn our back on the king of Merseyside,” a third wrote.
A fourth added: “Can’t win the league in the first half of the season. You didn’t hit form until the second half of the season after injury. Keep going and you will get us over the line after Christmas.”
Another Wrexham fan wrote: “Keep going. Mulls more minutes on the pitch would help form is temporary.”
A sixth replied: “Just need one to go in, doesn’t matter how then it will flow. Like last season with the Forest Green Rovers away game, head up.”
While a seventh added: “Keep the faith Mulls, you will come good again. No doubt.”

What has Phil Parkinson said about Paul Mullin
Wrexham are next in action against Bristol Rovers this weekend and fans will no doubt be keen to see their record goalscorer handed a rare start.
He has been ousted from the eleven by makeshift forward Elliot Lee over the last month or so but the Wrexham manager still seemingly has faith in the Liverpool-born star.
Parkinson offered a positive eight-word verdict on Mullin ahead of the Cambridge meeting last weekend.
Though no goal was forthcoming in said clash, it’s surely only a matter of time before the number nine ends his drought.
Parkinson revealed what he told Mullin about his lack of goals last month, saying: “I had a good chat with Paul. I said that we need to make sure that we’re not putting massive expectations on him. He’s had a serious operation in the summer, missing not just the pre-season, but the whole of the off-season as well.
”He was a long way behind the other lads, but I put him back on the bench quickly. That doesn’t mean he was really match-ready. He’s getting opportunities, and Paul is great. He doesn’t let things affect him when he doesn’t take those as he knows there’s another chance coming round the corner.
“The life of a goal scorer is such that at times it doesn’t go your way, but it’s making sure those dips don’t last too long, and he’ll come through that.”
