Wrexham have had to say goodbye to a few of their fan favourites this summer, namely Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin.

The time had come for Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin to leave Wrexham this summer, and seek pastures new after helping fire the club into the Championship over the last few years.

In the end, Palmer signed for Swindon Town on a permanent deal whilst Mullin joined Wigan Athletic on a loan deal.

Their exits highlight the club’s phenomenal rise under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, and of course manager Phil Parkinson, and their exits weren’t the only ones at the club this summer.

After the window shut, Eoghan O’Connell left Wrexham by mutual consent, whilst Tom O’Connor joined Peterborough United and George Evans signed for Burton Albion.

The likes of Mullin and Palmer certainly leave as modern-day Wrexham legends, joining an elite list which also includes names like Ben Tozer.

Ben Tozer speaks out on his Wrexham exit

Between 2021 and 2024, Tozer made an impressive 131 total appearances for Wrexham, scoring seven goals and winning promotion from both the National League and then League Two with the club.

Now 35 and newly-retired, Tozer has been speaking about leaving Wrexham when he did: the club released Tozer who then spent a season with Forest Green Rovers. Speaking to The Athletic, Tozer spoke about his love for the club but also about how he was ready to move on when he did.

Tozer said: “It’s such a special club, and the bond we all shared such a strong one. When you watch from afar, you still want to be a part of it. When I left, I was genuinely wanting them to do great. Which they did. But you still think, ‘I did enjoy being part of that’. It’s such an amazing story.

“In my case, I was ready to leave because I hadn’t been playing much. But, I was also really sad. I understood the situation. Your job is to get the club to a certain place and then someone else comes in to take it on.

“That’s part of the evolution of football. If the club wants to go where it wants to go, you will fall by the wayside. You just can’t take it personally. You have to park your ego and understand your role within that club.”

Ben Tozer’s prediction for Wrexham this season could come true

Tozer’s feelings about leaving Wrexham may be shared by the likes of Mullin and Palmer who knew they wouldn’t play all that much this season, but who no doubt have a lot of love for the club and the journey they’ve all been on.

And Tozer in particular often weighs in on all matters Wrexham. Earlier in the summer, Tozer gave his Wrexham prediction for 2025/26, predicting that the club would cause some upsets in the Championship.

He said: “Let’s be honest, the club are going to hopefully go for it and pack a punch, not kind of respect them too much and try and fight fire with fire basically.”

And the owners certainly went for it: Wrexham spent £40million on new players this summer, outspending the likes of Barcelona in the transfer market.

Wrexham return to action against QPR in the Championship this weekend and another win would really get some momentum going at the Racecourse.
