Wrexham’s promotion to the Championship was secured with a 3-0 victory over Charlton Athletic last month.

Ollie Rathbone welcomes new signings to the club as Phil Parkinson begins laying plans for building a Wrexham squad capable of competing in the second tier.

Humphrey Ker says Wrexham have a plan and know how much spending will be required in order to achieve a respectable league position within their new division.

Off the pitch, Michael Williamson wants to improve the infrastructure and he has just received a major boost in his quest to make Wrexham a Championship club away from just the playing squad.

Wrexham academy upgraded to category three

Ryan Reynolds praised Williamson for his love of the club and how he has been an ‘enormously beneficial’ addition to the club behind the scenes.

Williamson’s work is starting to reap the rewards as Wrexham’s academy has just been upgraded to category three ahead of the new season.

As per The Football Scholar, category three academy players are: “Provided with both professional coaching and development opportunities. Most teams in this category are from League 1, League 2. Category 3 from U16 includes an education program.”

It means the Red Dragons can continue to find the very best talent in North Wales and nurture them under their own values and aspirations.

Max Cleworth and Harry Ashfield examples of recent Wrexham academy products

Max Cleworth was praised by team mates for his award of young player of the season and is perhaps Wrexham’s biggest academy product in recent years.

Cleworth is set to break a Wrexham record next season by becoming the most-used player under Parkinson with current holder Paul Mullin set to depart the club.

Harry Ashfield is another academy product who will be looking to break into Parkinson’s plans next season, having scored his first goal for the club in the EFL trophy.

Ashfield’s new contract demonstrates how highly he is rated at the club and could even benefit from a loan spell next season in order to gain valuable senior experience.
