Wrexham are looking to sign a striker in the 2025 January transfer window.

The Red Dragons began the 2024/25 campaign well-stocked in the striker department.

Modou Faal was signed for a club-record fee from West Bromwich Albion over the summer with Phil Parkinson eyeing striking reinforcements.

Wrexham had five quality centre-forwards at their disposal following Faal’s arrival and kicked off their campaign in good form.

Jack Marriott was playing some of his best-ever football for the Red Dragons, scoring five in 10. But he then suffered a long-term injury in September that has kept him sidelined since.

Away from Marriott though, a number of the Welsh outfit’s number nine options have been somewhat subpar.

Some damning League One data has outlined how much Paul Mullin is struggling at Wrexham this season.

This, along with Marriott’s absence, has seen the club look toward the transfer market to fix their striking issues.

Wrexham target Michael Smith wins Sheffield Wednesday Player of the Month

Wrexham want to sign a striker in January and are eyeing an option who has Championship experience.

One player the club have previously considered is Sheffield Wednesday ace, Michael Smith.

Wrexham held talks with Smith over the summer but he ended up remaining with Danny Rohl’s Owls.

Now, the 33-year-old has been named as Sheffield Wednesday’s Player of the Month for November.

Smith, who also won the Championship Goal of the Month in October, scored twice for the Yorkshire outfit last month, winning the award with 25 percent of the vote.

Michael Smith leaves door open to Wrexham transfer

The Englishman has now made 17 appearances, scored four goals and provided two assists for Wednesday this term.

But despite remaining a key figure at Hillsborough, the striker’s future at the club is very much in doubt.

Last month, Wrexham target Smith left the door open to a transfer at some point in the future.

This comes with his contract in Sheffield running out at the end of this season and talks over a new deal still yet to be agreed.

He said on his contract situation: “It’s tough, especially with a young family, but as a footballer I think all you can do is concentrate on what you can control – and that’s coming in every day and working hard, and doing everything right on your end.

“I’ve always felt that if you do that then everything else will take care of itself, whether that’s getting a new contract or moving on elsewhere. I know if I can control what I can then I’ll be alright at the end of the day.

“We’ve had a few conversations, but the games have come thick and fast recently so it’s been pushed to the side – which is fully understandable. Whether those conversations are picked up in the next week or so we’ll have to wait and see. But obviously the manager is fully focused on the games coming up – as am I, as is the group. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.”
