Wrexham are once again eyeing reinforcements at the top end of the pitch as we head toward January.

The January transfer window is now just six weeks away and the Red Dragons have already begun making plans.

Club CEO Shaun Harvey confirmed Wrexham will be active in January during an interview this week.

And the Welsh side’s plans for the winter window have already begun to emerge during the last month.

Carlton Palmer believes that Wrexham should sign a striker in the upcoming window amid Paul Mullin’s struggles on the goal front.

Top scorer Jack Marriott is also sidelined for a lengthy period, with it clear Phil Parkinson needs more options up front.

A recent update claimed that Wrexham want to sign a striker with Championship experience in the January window and they could now have a great chance to do exactly that following a contract update from a summer target.

Wrexham handed Michael Smith transfer boost amid contract update

Tom Bradshaw was linked with the Red Dragons in the summer and fits the profile of the type of centre-forward the club want to sign.

Elsewhere, Wrexham held talks with Michael Smith over the summer but he ended up remaining at Sheffield Wednesday.

However, Smith is out of contract with the Owls in 2025 and when speaking about his contract situation recently, as per The Star, the forward suggested he was open to ‘moving on elsewhere’.

He said: “It’s tough, especially with a young family, but as a footballer I think all you can do is concentrate on what you can control – and that’s coming in every day and working hard, and doing everything right on your end.

“I’ve always felt that if you do that then everything else will take care of itself, whether that’s getting a new contract or moving on elsewhere. I know if I can control what I can then I’ll be alright at the end of the day.

“We’ve had a few conversations, but the games have come thick and fast recently so it’s been pushed to the side – which is fully understandable. Whether those conversations are picked up in the next week or so we’ll have to wait and see. But obviously the manager is fully focused on the games coming up – as am I, as is the group. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.”

How much would Wrexham have to pay to sign Michael Smith

Wrexham could wait until the summer to strike a deal for Smith and get him on a free transfer.

However, with Parkinson and co. aiming to snap up a striker in January, they could land the 33-year-old in a cut-price January move.

Transfermarkt value Smith at £300,000 but given his age and the short time left on his Wednesday contract, Wrexham will likely be able to agree a much lower fee.

Smith has been in and out of Danny Rohl’s eleven this term but still has three goals and two assists in 14 Championship appearances despite the fact he is yet to complete 90 minutes.
