Wrexham and Wycombe Wanderers are heading for a promotion showdown that will go down to the wire.

Both sides have been consistent performers throughout the League One season and after Wycombe’s 1-0 victory Huddersfield, the gap is now just three points between second and third in the table.

Mike Dodds claims Wycombe are ‘galvanised’ following that victory and The Chairboys host Stevenage in their next fixture whilst Wrexham travel to Wigan.

Phil Parkinson issued a fitness update ahead of that clash and striker Jay Rodriguez is expected to be fit whilst George Dobson also looks to be fit after having required stitches in the 3-0 win over Burton.

It is set to be another pivotal round of fixtures in the promotion race but the Red Dragons have been told they have one major advantage over their rivals.

Phil Parkinson gives Wrexham advantage in League One promotion race

Speaking on the latest episode of the Rob.Ryan.Red. podcast, journalist Nathan Salt has highlighted how he believes Parkinson will give Wrexham a major advantage in the race for promotion.

Salt stated: “What will be will be, but you know, Phil Parkinson is the manager and all right, the style is not great. It’s not amazing, but it’s effective and we win football matches.”

The experience of the Red Dragons boss could be a major factor as the race comes down to the wire compared to that of Wycombe’s Dodds.

Salt explained: “I think if you offered me a Phil Parkinson Wrexham or a Mike Dodds Wycombe to get more points between now and the end of the season, I’m going to ride with Parkinson. I’m going to ride with the manager who’s delivered two straight promotions.”

Parkinson could achieve historic feat with Wrexham

Ryan Longman revealed a promotion secret by stating that the Wrexham squad are ‘talking about’ becoming the first side in history to achieve three successive promotions.

Eoghan O’Connell has praised Wrexham’s mentality and the positivity coming out of the club is in no small part to the job that Parkinson has done since taking over in 2021.

Being a football manager is a tough job and under the spotlight and pressure that comes with being Wrexham manager these days, Parkinson has shown all of his experience and leadership.

A historic feat such as three successive promotions would be well deserved for a manager who doesn’t often get the credit that his achievements warrant.
