Wrexham are gearing up for their first ever season in the Championship, taking on their toughest challenge yet.
The Red Dragons made history on April 26, 2025, when they beat Charlton Athletic to secure a third successive promotion.
Wrexham have previously competed in the second tier back in the 1980s, but have never played in the Championship following the division’s rebrand.
The 2025/26 Championship start date has been confirmed, and fans are no doubt excited to see their club in action against a plethora of new teams and some old rivals.
For the most part, Phil Parkinson’s men have dominated since the Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds takeover.
Now they are competing in the second tier, they are set to face off with plenty of top-level clubs who have big budgets and have recently had spells in the Premier League.

Wrexham squad value vs 2024/25 Championship teams
Wrexham are being linked with plenty of new players already this summer, despite the transfer window only being open for 10 days.
And new arrivals will certainly be needed if the Red Dragons want to be competitive in the second tier.
Right now, Transfermarkt value Wrexham’s current squad at €13.65m (around £11.57m).
While that’s certainly a big increase from pre-Rob and Ryan, it pales in comparison to even the lowest-value Championship squad (Portsmouth, €20.35m).
The difference between the title-winning side and Wrexham is pretty insane as well, with Leeds United’s team valued at €211.20m (around £179.09m) – a £167.5m gap.
Wrexham transfer targets market value
As already mentioned, a number of high-level names are being tipped to move to the Racecourse Ground.
Danny Ings has held talks with Wrexham, and his soon-to-be former West Ham United teammate, Aaron Cresswell, has been linked heavily.
Ben Davies is a target, though Tottenham Hotspur getting a new manager and triggering an extension could complicate that deal.
Should those stars, or similar players, arrive in Wales, it will see Wrexham’s squad value increase a fair amount and hopefully make them more competitive in the second tier.

Of course, having a high-value squad doesn’t always equal success, but it’s no coincidence that the top four teams on the above list finished 2024/25 in those exact league positions, with three of the four winning promotion.
