Wrexham are now gearing up for their first ever season in the Championship and there have been plenty of predictions made.
Wrexham made history in 2024/25, securing a club-high 92 points in the EFL to earn second place in League One.
They have won promotion to the Championship along with rivals Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic.
Wrexham have not competed in the Championship since it was rebranded in the early 2000s, and haven’t lined out in the second tier for 43 years.
It has been suggested Phil Parkinson needs to make six to nine signings in order to be competitive in 2025/26, but it remains to be seen how Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ side will fare after winning yet another promotion.
There have been plenty of predictions made about Wrexham already, some more positive than others, and we have rounded them all up.

Wrexham 2025/26 Championship predictions
- Troy Deeney:
Former Birmingham City player Troy Deeney gave a mixed assessment of Wrexham but did back them for a top-half finish.
He said: “I think they’ll struggle to spend to the level they want. I think, just as much as giving Phil Parkinson great credit for what he’s done so far, I think the way that they play is very basic in terms of being well organised, they’re structured, they go back to front very quickly, they get a lot of crosses in the box… that’s food and drink in the Championship, everyone should be ready to do that.
“I would say… I think they will be top half in the Championship next year. I do think a lot of teams will be better, I would expect it to be a more competitive Championship than it has been in the last couple of seasons.”
- Richard Sutcliffe:
Journalist Richard Sutcliffe was asked what Wrexham’s target will be in 2025/26 and suggested the club will want 14th place as that would be their highest ever finish in the EFL.
He said: “Sitting here now, mentioning momentum like you’ve mentioned there, 14th.“And I say that because that will be the club’s highest ever position in their history going way, way back forever. To be everyone else around the country, they’ll be like ‘14th, so what’ but to Wrexham, it’s another stepping stone to where they’re going to end up.
“They are going to end up in the Premier League. I think if Wrexham were to turn around at the end of next season and say, yeah, we finished 14th, 13th, whatever, that’s success because no other team has finished as high as that.”
- Mark Howard:
After deciding to leave the club this summer, Mark Howard has assessed Wrexham’s Championship chances.
He stated: “The Championship is going to be a very tough task and I think everyone at the club is very understanding of that.
“But obviously with winning it breeds momentum and obviously Wrexham have got the know-how staff and I must credit the manager [Phil Parkinson] for the type of squad that he does put together,
“He gives everyone a chance and we all know everyone will fight for each other and you don’t have to play well every game because you just have to fight tooth and nail until that final minute.”
- Ben Foster:
Rob McElhenney played down ‘consolidation’ for the Red Dragons in 2025/26. However, Ben Foster’s Wrexham prediction has them staying in the second tier for several years before reaching the Premier League.
He said: “The next season is so, so hard for Wrexham. They just need to consolidate for a year, maybe two, maybe three. But then they’re going to be looking at a five-year period where they’re going, ‘Right, we need to be challenging’. I genuinely think, within five years, Wrexham will be in the Premier League.”
- Lee Hendrie:
Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie was very confident about Wrexham’s chances in the Championship and went as far as to suggest they could win promotion again, along with Birmingham.
He said: “After what Wrexham and Birmingham have done last season, why shouldn’t they be real strong candidates of going and getting promoted again? I think that we see teams coming out of League One, and they probably haven’t got the money and the strong incentives to bring in players that can have that bounce factor to go again,” he told Football League World.
“This is a different case with Wrexham and Birmingham City.
