£350m Wrexham investment would open door for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to surpass their rival

Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are ready to sell a stake to help the club reach new heights.

Wrexham will confirm the Allyn family investment later this month via an official confirmation statement.

While one set of billionaires have already joined Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney on their journey, the duo are eyeing further partners.

It has been reported that Reynolds and McElhenney want to sell a stake in Wrexham, with a £350m valuation mooted.

A Saudi takeover has since been mooted by one financial expert, but no matter who comes on board alongside the Hollywood actors and the Allyn family, it’s sure to propel the club to new heights and help them really compete in the Championship.

Wrexham £350m investment will help close gap on Birmingham City

The initial report stated that the plan behind a stake sale was to help Wrexham raise capital in order to compete in the Championship.

And with the summer transfer window having been open for most clubs since June 1, it’s clear Rob and Ryan’s team are lagging behind their League One rivals, Birmingham City.

Blues investor Tom Brady has been poking fun at Wrexham ahead of 2025/26 while in the market, Birmingham are currently much more active and spending a lot more than the Welsh club.

At the time of writing, the Midlands outfit have already completed a staggering nine signings this summer (some of which were loans from 2024/25 turned into permanent deals).

In comparison, Wrexham have spent £700,000 on Ryan Hardie and signed Danny Ward as a backup goalkeeper for free.

The Blues’ squad was already better equipped to compete in the Championship before any new signings were made, having broken the League One transfer record for Jay Stansfield last year as well as several more high-profile additions for big sums.

Right now, it’s become evident that despite the close rivalry between the owners, Birmingham, at this stage in their development, are well above Wrexham when it comes to spending.

But fresh investment in the Red Dragons should, in theory, help McElhenney and Reynolds’ team take a big step toward matching Brady and Co.

Birmingham City want another Wrexham transfer target

As shown above, Chris Davies’ team have already beaten Wrexham to one signing this summer, securing Tommy Doyle from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

And another midfield target is now thought to be of interest to the current League One champions.

It comes with reports late last week saying that Birmingham City want Wrexham target Lewis O’Brien.

We provided an update on a potential O’Brien transfer this week, confirming with our expert that talks have been held but a deal is a ‘long way from being done’.
