Wrexham signed 13 new players in the summer transfer window. However, not all of them have hit the ground running.
The summer was a busy one for Wrexham who spent £33 million on new players, with 13 new names arriving at the Racecourse for the 2025/26 season.
But for Phil Parkinson, it’s been a slow start to the campaign. Before the break, Wrexham drew 1-1 with Birmingham City and now find themselves in 18th place of the Championship table.
There have been some success stories with their summer signings, with Kieffer Moore and Josh Windass both amongst the goals already. However, a recent claim suggested that Conor Coady is the worst bit of business for Wrexham in the summer transfer window.
That is certainly up for debate, though with a few other candidates having yet to impress Wrexham, one such name being Danny Ward in goal.

Danny Ward signing has hurt Wrexham in more ways than one
Wrexham fans were divided by the signing of Ward in the summer, with the Welsh international returning to Wrexham on a free transfer after leaving Leicester City. And to many people’s surprise, Parkinson opted with Ward in goal for the opening day defeat against Southampton.
In the four league appearances he made for the Dragons, Ward conceded seven goals with one clean sheet. But Ward failed to impress the Wrexham fans and after suffering a dislocated elbow, Ward is now out until January next year with Arthur Okonkwo stepping in in his place.
Along with Ward failing to impress, his injury means that Okonkwo is the no.1 choice goalkeeper, and he too is failing to do much to impress the watching Wrexham fans.

Wrexham have to cope until the transfer window re-opens
Whilst Ward’s performances weren’t awful for Wrexham, they certainly weren’t overly impressive, and he stakes a claim for Wrexham’s most questionable bit of transfer business this summer, as the Dragons spent a huge amount and failed to sign a solid no.1.
Neither Okonkwo nor Ward are arguably goalkeepers of top level Championship quality, then there is Callum Burton in the no.2 position, whilst Wrexham are signing youngster Sam Hocking after a trial period.
The Dragons now have to wait until January for not only Ward to come back, but for the transfer window to open so they can sign a new and solid goalkeeper.
In fact, a lot of Wrexham’s transfer business this summer can be pulled under the spotlight, especially after this difficult start to the season, but Wrexham’s decision to sign Ward has haunted them in more ways than one.
