Humphrey Ker has been proven right after making a prediction for Wrexham’s spending.
Wrexham won promotion to the Championship on April 26 after a 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic.
It was clear at the time that a squad overhaul was needed, but just how much money was going to be spent was unknown.
Various figures were floated around, but it’s unlikely anyone expected Wrexham to spend £33m and have the third-highest expenditure in the Championship this summer.
Humphrey Ker, though, was well aware of the money required to match the owners’ ambitions.

Wrexham are spending for Premier League promotion
After 2024/25, Rob Mac played down consolidation for Wrexham in the new season.
More recently, it emerged that Mac and Reynolds want to reach the Premier League by the end of 2026/27.
That is a pretty short deadline, but as Ker’s prediction has now shown, they have backed up their demand with the required spending.
Speaking back in May, before it was reported that Reynolds and Mac want promotion by next season, Ker predicted how much Wrexham needed to spend in the Championship for various scenarios to play out.
And when it came to securing a place in the top-flight, Ker predicted spending would need to increase nearly 10-fold.
He said: “If you want to finish mid-table, upper mid-table, you’re talking about 6x something like that what we’re doing and if you want to get in the Premier League it’s 10x pretty much.”
That is exactly what happened this summer, with Wrexham paying out an initial £33m, which could rise closer to £40m if add-ons in deals for Nathan Broadhead, Callum Doyle and Liberato Cacace are met.
In comparison, they spent just over £4m across two transfer windows in 2024/25.

Wrexham could spend more in January
The big spending may not be done this season, either.
While rival fans will point towards PSR as a problem for the Red Dragons, that is not the case, at least not yet.
Wrexham could spend £10m in January and still not be in danger of breaching any financial fair play rules.
Whether they do so remains to be seen, but there are a couple of areas in the squad that could be strengthened.
