Wrexham are set to take on Exeter City in a League One meeting on Saturday afternoon, aiming to keep their spot in the top two.

Wrexham secured two huge wins in the last two weeks, seeing off Wycombe Wanderers and Stockport County by the same 1-0 scoreline.

Said victories over fellow top-six teams has ensured the Red Dragons have moved back into the automatic promotion places ahead of their final eight league games of 2024/25.

Wrexham and Wycombe are now set to battle it out to decide who will join Birmingham City in going up automatically.

This weekend, the Chairboys will go head-to-head with Lincoln City on Saturday afternoon.

At the same time, Wrexham clash with Exeter City, who have are now unbeaten in their last six and Phil Parkinson could make a surprising Paul Mullin call.

Paul Mullin replaces Jack Marriott in Wrexham squad vs Exeter City

Wrexham go into the meeting with Exeter still looking to add more goals to their frontline.

Jay Rodriguez scored his first goal last weekend, but even so, it remains clear Parkinson’s men are still not the most prolific side.

Given they are now facing one of the top-three most in-form teams in League One, more firepower off the bench will likely be needed.

Currently, it is Steven Fletcher and Jack Marriott who have been acting as the back-up options in every game.

Mullin has not featured in nine league outings, last lining out all the way back on January 28.

However, Mullin scored for Wrexham in a reverse meeting in the Central League earlier this week and may have done enough to warrant getting the nod ahead of Marriott.

The latter was in superb form when 2024/25 got underway, but since his return from injury in early 2025, he has failed to find the back of the net in League One.

It’s very unlikely Rodriguez will be dropped despite fans still not being sold on him, but after his goal on Tuesday, it does seem there’s a real chance we could finally see Mullin back in a matchday squad.

What Phil Parkinson has said about Paul Mullin

Mullin and Ollie Palmer have had transfer interest this year, and their futures did appear to be in doubt amid a continued lack of game time.

However, the Wrexham boss finally spoke out about the previously key pair recently, seemingly hinting they could still have a role to play before 2024/25 is over.

Commenting on Mullin and Palmer, Parkinson said last week: “The lads out of the team like Mulls and Ollie, who have both made significant contributions for us, they’re right with the group training hard every day and waiting for the moment because you never know when that moment is going to come, and you’ve got to be prepared for it as Lewis Brunt was at the weekend.”
