Phil Parkinson could shock Wrexham fans by naming five-touch ace in his XI vs Bristol Rovers

Wrexham are back in League One action this weekend, facing Bristol Rovers in a 12:30pm kick-off on Saturday.

The Red Dragons will be looking to make it seven league games without defeat when they travel to Bristol Rovers on December 21st.

Wrexham were surprisingly held to a 2-2 draw by relegation-threatened Cambridge United in their last League One meeting.

It was only the second time Phil Parkinson had seen his players drop points at the Racecourse Ground in 2024/25 – the other being a 0-0 draw with Huddersfield Town in October.

They are back on the road this weekend for a clash at the Memorial Stadium versus a Bristol Rovers side who have won just one in five and recently sacked their manager.

In a bid to get his side back to winning ways and regain some ground on the league leaders, Parkinson may make some changes to his starting line-up.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson could start for Wrexham vs Bristol Rovers

Despite conceding twice to Cambridge, Wrexham still have the best defensive record in League One this season.

However, their lack of goals, especially from their strikers, will no doubt be something of a concern for Parkinson.

Ollie Palmer’s three goals in 20 make him the club’s tops-scoring, fit centre-forward. Wrexham were given a Jack Marriott injury boost this week, but the 30-year-old will not feature on Saturday.

In a bid to solve his side’s problems up front, Parkinson has been using Elliot Lee as a makeshift forward.

However, Wrexham fans are not happy with Lee and how he has performed since partnering Palmer.

In turn, the Red Dragons boss could now shock fans and give a very rare start to Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.

Parkinson labelled Bodvarrson ‘really good’ following his first league start against Stockport County last month.

But after coming off the bench in the meeting with Exeter City and having just five touches, as per Sofascore, he has been left out of Wrexham’s last five matchday squads in the league.

Phil Parkinson stance on Jon Dadi Bodvarsson appears clear

With Marriott out for four months, Wrexham signed Bodvarsson as a free agent in October.

Along with Matty James, his contract at the Racecourse is set to expire at the end of December.

After missing the club’s last five league ties, it seemed obvious the Welsh side had decided they no longer needed Bodvarsson’s services.

However, Wrexham’s reserves faced Salford City on Tuesday afternoon and Bodvarsson featured in the game.

Had Parkinson been planning to get rid of the striker in a few weeks when his deal runs out, he likely wouldn’t have felt the need to give him minutes in midweek – perhaps hinting he could make his League One return very soon.
