Wrexham decided to loan Sam Dalby to Dundee United during the 2024 summer transfer window.
The Red Dragons sent a number of players out on loan in the most recent transfer window, including Billy Waters who has been impressing for Halifax.
However, it’s fair to say that no loanee has shone more for their temporary team in 2024/25 than Sam Dalby.
With Wrexham’s striker ranks heavily stocked going into the current campaign following the club-record arrival of Modou Faal, Dalby was shipped off on loan to Dundee United.
The 25-year-old started on the bench in his first two Scottish Premier League appearances but quickly cemented himself as a regular starter.
When in from the off, the London-born number nine has scored a very impressive eight goals – making him the top scorer in the division and seeing Dalby named SPL Player of the Month for November.

Phil Parkinson drops Sam Dalby Wrexham future hint
Dalby has surpassed his Wrexham goal tally from 2023/24 (5) and now has more league goals than all of Phil Parkinson’s current centre-forwards this term.
It took the forward 27 fewer games to beat his previous total and he’s clearly in much better form than the likes of Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin this term.
| Player | League goals (appearances) |
| Sam Dalby | 8 (13) |
| Paul Mullin | 1 (18) |
| Ollie Palmer | 3 (20) |
| Steve Fletcher | 2 (14) |
| Modou Faal | 0 (3) |
So, with the club’s strikers struggling so much on the goal front and Dalby in the form of his life, fans may be keen to see the forward recalled in January.
Phil Parkinson provided an update on Wrexham’s January transfer plans in a recent interview and may have hinted at his plan for Dalby.
He said: “January comes and that process is ongoing always because we’ve got players on loan who could come back.”
While Parkinson did not mention Dalby by name, of all the players the Welsh outfit have out on loan right now, it does make the most sense to recall him given his form and Wrexham’s need for more goals.

Dundee United Sam Dalby transfer stance
While Wrexham’s plans for the forward are still up in the air as we head toward January, Dundee United have made their stance on Dalby clear.
The striker’s current contract runs out at the end of June 2025, meaning he will be a free agent in the summer unless the Red Dragons offer him a new deal.
Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin spoke about Dalby earlier this month, making it clear he wants him to remain at their club permanently.
He said: “We want to be at the table when those conversations need to take place.
“Right now we’re not wanting any distractions. Sam and his representatives know where we are and they know that we would love the big fellow to stay longer term.”
