Phil Parkinson must be patient with ‘really good’ Wrexham signing, one concern could limit his game time

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson may have to be wary with one new signing as gametime concerns could spark unwanted problems.

Wrexham signed 14 players during the summer transfer window, as Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac significantly backed Phil Parkinson.

There was a clear intention for Wrexham to bring in Championship-ready talents in order to give Parkinson’s side a good chance of survival in the English second tier.

One player who Parkinson brought in on deadline day was Issa Kabore, arriving on loan from Man City.

While on paper the deal to bring Kabore to the Racecourse Ground could prove to be highly beneficial, the Wrexham defender may have to be used sparingly by Parkinson.

Issa Kabore’s lack of game time could spark Wrexham issues

The 2024/25 season saw Issa Kabore sent out on two separate loan spells, starting with Portuguese giants Benfica before moving on to Werder Bremen.

While both spells gave Kabore the foundations to build on his 2023/24 Premier League campaign with Luton Town, he only managed 315 minutes of league football in the entire season.

On a positive note, he did play a role in Benfica’s Champions League campaign, playing against both Bayern Munich and Red Star Belgrade.

This lack of game time will surely leave Phil Parkinson pondering if he can use Kabore from the off, or if he will have to ease him in.

What Phil Parkinson has said about Issa Kabore

In Phil Parkinson’s pre-match press conference ahead of the home clash against Queens Park Rangers, the Wrexham boss has reflected on the deal to sign Issa Kabore, but also emphasised the need to see him before he can play a prominent role for the club.

“Issa’s a player we’d looked at earlier in the window,” said Parkinson via the BBC. “It wasn’t until the window was closing we felt we could bring him here.

“We haven’t seen him on the training pitch yet but he’s had two great games for his country. We’ll assess him tomorrow and integrate him as quickly as we can.

Kabore’s arrival understandably brings excitement, with him being labelled as ‘really good’ by Man City boss Pep Guardiola.

The Man City loanee, on a positive note, just notched 180 minutes across two games for Burkina Faso, suggesting that he may be further ahead in fitness levels than initially expected.
