As pressure builds on Phil Parkinson, it is clear that both Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac’s stance on the Wrexham boss may have changed.

Wrexham suffered defeat to QPR at the Racecourse Ground, with the Red Dragons yet to notch a win at home.

It was a disappointing display from Phil Parkinson’s side, who were unravelled by a QPR side on home soil.

Following the game, Wrexham Insider’s chief transfer expert Graeme Bailey exclusively said: “I am told that discussions within the hierarchy have taken place about whether they might need to make a decision on Phil Parkinson and that happened before this weekend.

“The club would be loathed to part company but they are at a level now where they can’t carry on like this. QPR was a six pointer and they were miles off it.”

While Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac would be gutted to lose Parkinson after years of incredible service, it can be argued that their stance on him may have changed since the last time he was under the cosh.

What Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac said last time when Phil Parkinson was under pressure

The first full season overseen by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac saw Phil Parkinson face difficulties at Wrexham.

There was plenty of expectation on Wrexham to achieve greatness under the Hollywood pair, but that did not arrive immediately.

When Wrexham were under the cosh during their National League campaign which ended in heartbreak as Grimsby Town beat them in the play-offs, both Rob and Ryan discussed Parkinson’s future and whether it would be viable to let him go.

Speaking in 2022, Reynolds said: “First off it was a coup that we even got him. You let him go seven months later, I think it’s just a bad look. I think you can’t do business like that, you can’t work with people like that.”

Mac added: “I don’t mind giving him time, the problem is he’s asking for a significant amount of money for the January transfer window.

“The decision we have to make is whether or not, not only do we keep him, ok that’s one thing, give him a full season, fine. But we’re essentially doubling down not only for this season but next season because the players we sign, it’ll be two to three-year contracts.”

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac’s view on Phil Parkinson may have changed amid Wrexham form

It is clear that pressure is mounting on Phil Parkinson for the first time since the 2021/22 National League season, and while the Wrexham boss has the weight of experience and a proven track record at the Racecourse Ground on his side, it is a slightly different situation this time around.

Wrexham punched far above their weight when bringing Phil Parkinson to the Racecourse Ground during the National League days due to him being a seasoned League One manager, who also had vast experience at Championship level as well.

Now that Wrexham have reached the Championship, it could be argued that, while Parkinson has done a stellar job in his role, other more attractive options could be sounded out by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac.

Rob and Ryan do not tend to make the footballing decisions, but they will be made aware that, because Wrexham’s stature in the game has grown so much, they could even go for a Premier League-experienced coach.
