One decision fronted by Phil Parkinson may have come back to haunt Wrexham after they sanctioned the departure of Ollie Palmer to Swindon Town.

Wrexham fell to a 3-1 defeat against QPR, making it just one win in five games for the Red Dragons.

After a difficult start to the 2025/26 Championship season, Wrexham sit 21st in the league, two points above the relegation zone.

The home loss against QPR has led to discussions amongst the Wrexham hierarchy about Phil Parkinson, as Wrexham Insider exclusively confirmed.

While there are many issues to focus on following the disappointment at home to QPR, one glaring concern has come to light on the attacking front, which involves the decision to let go of Ollie Palmer.

Wrexham have been unable to replace Ollie Palmer with Ryan Hardie signing

It was confirmed that Ollie Palmer would not be part of Phil Parkinson’s plans at Wrexham, leading to the Red Dragons’ boss sanctioning his departure to League Two side Swindon Town, something that was scrutinised by supporters.

This came after Wrexham signed a range of attackers, including Ryan Hardie, who is yet to hit the heights with the Red Dragons, having scored just once in all competitions.

Hardie struggled against QPR, which has been a trend in the Championship so far for the Plymouth Argyle man.

Following a tricky start to life in North Wales, it begs the question, has he been an improvement on Palmer?

Before Palmer departed Wrexham, he bagged two goals in a substitute appearance against Championship side Hull City in the EFL Cup.

Ollie Palmer has already shone at Swindon Town

While Wrexham struggle in the final third, aside from the individual quality displayed by Kieffer Moore this season, there are contrasting scenes at Swindon Town, where Ollie Palmer’s side sit top of the division.

Palmer has only been with Swindon Town for a couple of weeks, but he has already received huge praise from Ian Holloway.

Holloway feels that Palmer is ‘much better’ than just being a big centre-forward, and urged his squad to play around Palmer with sharp, quick passing rather than going direct to him at all times.

Following a pretty turgid start to the 2025/26 Championship campaign for the Red Dragons, there needs to be a reality check that Wrexham cannot solely rely on Kieffer Moore for his goalscoring, and that must be addressed proactively.
