Wrexham’s 2025/26 season so far has been a largely mixed one, with the Dragons sitting in 18th place of the table right now.
Before the break, Wrexham drew 1-1 with Birmingham City in what was their ninth Championship game of the season.
But from those nine, Phil Parkinson’s side have just two wins, with Wrexham in 18th place of the table and already five points outside the play-off places.
There have been reports that Parkinson could be sacked at Wrexham if results don’t soon improve, after Wrexham spent £33million on new players during the summer transfer window.
Even the Opta supercomputer is predicting a tough road ahead for the Dragons this season.

The supercomputer is forgetting one key thing at Wrexham
Wrexham have drawn their last three games 1-1. But in two of those games they had the lead and if those draws had actually been wins, the Dragons would have an extra four points on the board and they’d be up in the top half of the table right now.
After the Birmingham City game, Wrexham’s chances of promotion were slashed with Opta’s supercomputer now predicting Wrexham to finish in 18th place this season, with their chances of a play-off finish dropping to 7.24% and their chances of relegation increasing to 17.82%.
But the supercomputer doesn’t take into account the January transfer window. It’s often a vital refuelling spot for teams and it could yet dictate how well Wrexham do in the entirety of the 2025/26 Championship campaign.
How much can Wrexham spend in January?
Wrexham’s spending is within their means. It always has been. The club has never spent more than they have or expect to make and that’s the case again this season.
Speaking to Wrexham Insider earlier this season, football finance expert Adam Williams revealed that Wrexham can spend £50million this season; on transfers, wages and whatnot before they have to think about PSR.
Williams though said that how much exactly the club has left to spend in January, and how much they’d be willing to spend, largely depends on how well they’re performing by that time.
If the Dragons are struggling near the bottom, as they are now, or looking like promotion candidates, then expect another heavy load of investment which would no doubt push the team higher up the Championship table wherever they’re placed at the time.
Wrexham return to action against Stoke City next weekend.
