Wrexham want to bring Danny Ings to Wrexham in the summer transfer window, and a number of people at the club will be impacted.

A new striker signing is on the cards for the Red Dragons as they look to add quality to their forward line ahead of competing in the Championship.

Wrexham were linked with Danny Ings last month as he prepares to see out his West Ham United contract and become a free agent on June 30.

We revealed recently that Ings has had talks over a move to the Racecourse Ground.

Further reports have since corroborated Wrexham’s interest, with Watford keen on the striker as well.

Should the 32-year-old choose the Welsh outfit over their Championship rivals, we have taken a look at the potential winners and losers from a deal.

Winners from Danny Ings transfer to Wrexham

Danny Ings

The number nine joined West Ham from Aston Villa in 2023, but after a fruitful career that saw Jurgen Klopp praise Ings and Manchester City look at a transfer, he fell out of favour this past season.

The Hammers afforded the former England international just 270 minutes of game time in the Premier League last term, though he did still score one and assist two.

Given the lack of goal scorers at Wrexham right now, Ings should see a lot more action if he signs.

Sam Smith

Sam Smith had a prolific first four months in Wales, scoring seven League One goals after arriving on January 31 from Reading.

However, Smith was isolated on numerous occasions when playing up front alongside Jay Rodriguez, who often dropped deeper and didn’t link up with his partner enough.

But Ings is a pacey forward who likes to play off the last man and get in behind, meaning he and Smith will hopefully have a better connection that will benefit both players.

Phil Parkinson

Phil Parkinson’s transfer policy of adding a few vastly experienced players to Wrexham each season has worked wonders so far.

Fans, especially rivals, are always going to groan when a player aged 30 or above arrives, but so far, this strategy has been very successful when paired with additions of younger assets such as Lewis Brunt and Arthur Okonkwo.

Ings would bring a wealth of Premier League experience and could offer valuable knowledge to the club’s younger strikers like Modou Faal and Smith.

Losers from Danny Ings transfer to Wrexham

Paul Mullin

Paul Mullin fell heavily out of favour in the second half of 2024/25.

He became Wrexham’s fifth or sixth-choice striker option behind Smith, Rodriguez, Steven Fletcher, and Jack Marriott.

Should Ings arrive, it would push the 30-year-old further down the pecking order.

Jack Marriott

Rob McElhenney was ‘really excited’ for Marriott at the start of 2024/25 when he started and scored in the club’s League One opener against Wycombe Wanderers.

He went on to score a total of five in 10 for Wrexham before suffering a long-term injury.

The striker returned earlier this year but couldn’t regain his starting berth and only netted one more league goal.

He, like Mullin, would surely slip out of the matchday squad if Ings were to arrive.

Jay Rodriguez

Wrexham fans have criticised Rodriguez a fair amount since his winter move from Burnley.

The forward scored two goals for the Red Dragons, but as already mentioned, probably didn’t connect with Smith well enough.

Smith seems to be the club’s number one striker option right now, so Ings would likely take Rodriguez’s place in the eleven.
