Winners and losers from an Ollie Palmer Wrexham exit include Ryan Reynolds and under-fire star

Ollie Palmer’s future at Wrexham has been called into question going into the 2025 summer transfer window.

The striker will go down in the history books as one of the Red Dragons’ all-time greats.

However, after the arrivals of Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez on January 31st, 2025, Ollie Palmer was axed from Wrexham’s League One squad.

He hasn’t featured in the league since January 28 and is now in the final year of his contract with the club.

Palmer has been backed to leave Wrexham this summer, along with fellow long-time striking partner, Paul Mullin.

Phil Parkinson has already said that players will leave this summer, and we have taken a look at potential winners and losers should Palmer, who is already far down the pecking order, leave.

Winners from Ollie Palmer leaving Wrexham

Modou Faal

Wrexham paid what was at the time, a club record fee to sign Modou Faal from West Bromwich Albion last summer.

Faal impressed in the EFL Trophy but found game time in League One very hard to come by, notching just 63 minutes of action.

However, the already confirmed departure of Steven Fletcher and potential Palmer exit would push the 22-year-old further up the striker pecking order.

Jay Rodriguez

Wrexham fans criticised Rodriguez a fair bit during his first half-season with the club after he joined from Burnley.

Rodriguez became the ‘big-man’ option in Parkinson’s front two, though he did occupy a slightly deeper role and was nowhere near as effective as Palmer in the air.

But if the 33-year-old does leave, like Faal, it would hand the ex-Burnley man a better chance of keeping his starting place in the Championship, though many supporters may not see that as a positive.

Losers from Ollie Palmer leaving Wrexham

Ryan Reynolds

Both Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds form good relationships with every player who joins Wrexham, face-timing or at least giving stars their numbers.

Palmer and Reynolds have an especially positive and public relationship, however, with the pair spending time together in the United States recently.

Palmer praised Reynolds and McElhenney recently, while Ryan reached out to the Wrexham forward when he was injured, and would no doubt be sad to see the striker let go.

Wrexham fans

In part because of Welcome to Wrexham, fans of the Welsh outfit have been given an in-depth look into the lives of many of their stars.

Palmer has been a major part of the documentary and, of course, the club’s historic rise from the National League up to League One.

Fans of any club are sad when a long-time favourite leaves, but it will hit especially hard for Wrexham supporters, given how much of a connection they have been able to build with Palmer thanks to the heavy coverage of the club.
