Wrexham are plotting an ambitious raid on their Welsh rivals Swansea City this summer, with Harry Darling in their sights.

Harry Darling sees his Swansea City contract come to an end this summer and Wrexham are hoping to steal the centre-back on a free transfer, following their promotion to the Championship.

It’s claimed that Wrexham and Birmingham City are interested in Darling who played a starring role for the Swans in 2024/25, featuring 39 times in the Championship and scoring an impressive five goals from defence.

Swansea City fans have mixed feelings about Darling who is seemingly playing hardball over his future, weighing up his options as he approaches the end of his three-year contract in Wales.

And the rumours that he could make the switch to Wrexham haven’t exactly gone down well with the Swansea faithful. Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham are also linked with several Cardiff City players including their 2024/25 top scorer Callum Robinson.

Swansea City in contract talks with Wrexham transfer target Harry Darling

On Friday, Wrexham released their retained list. The club is letting go of eight players including strikers Sam Dalby and Steven Fletcher, with Wrexham fans upset by Fletcher’s exit with many thinking he could’ve done a job in the Championship.

Swansea City also released their retained list on Friday. And in what will be of great interest to Parkinson and Wrexham, the Swans revealed the latest on Darling’s future with Swansea not giving up easily on the 25-year-old Englishman.

The club has stated: “Harry Darling has been offered a new contract to remain with the Swans, and discussions between the club and the player are ongoing.” There remains no indication as to whether he’ll eventually accept their offer.

The latest on Wrexham’s search for a new centre-back

A new centre-back or two looks like a key priority for Parkinson this summer, with the future of Eoghan O’Connell still unclear. O’Connell was supposedly out of contract this summer but there was no mention of him in the club’s retained list.

Other centre-backs linked with a move to the Racecourse, along with Darling, including Man United duo Jack Kingdon and Jonny Evans, who are both out of contract this summer, but United’s season isn’t over yet and so their retained list hasn’t been published.

Darling though looks like he’s really considering his options. And with Wrexham offering a £50,000-a-week contract to Tom Cairney it could mean that the club is ready to push the boat out for Darling too.

He’d be a great signing, albeit a controversial one from a Swans perspective.
