Wrexham need new signings this summer, and the Dragons could turn to some of their January transfer targets.

Wrexham’s summer ahead is their biggest one yet. Following promotion to the Championship last time out, Wrexham are now faced with the monumental task of not only competing in the Championship, but in keeping their current momentum going.

Fans don’t want the journey to stop. Wrexham are now just one season away form potentially playing in the Premier League and if they can achieve the currently unthinkable fourth-straight promotion, it would make Ryan Reynolds’ wish of Premier League football within 10 years come true.

But everyone at the club will surely harbour concerns about the Championship. It’s a whole different ball game to anything they’ve faced yet with some seriously strong and wealthy clubs operating in this league.

One such team are Sunderland. The Black Cats have a play-off spot in the bags and could themselves earn promotion. In January, it was they who beat Wrexham to the signing of Jayden Danns.

Wrexham should re-target Liverpool’s Jayden Danns this summer

In the January transfer window Wrexham were linked with Danns at Liverpool. The 19-year-old was set up for his first ever loan move away from the club and he joined Sunderland in the end. Though an unknown back injury meant that he’s not played a single minute of football or the club.

Sunderland discovered the injury soon after his arrival. Danns was ruled out for the season but is expected back in pre-season where Liverpool will no doubt try again with a loan move, and Wrexham could be the perfect home.

Phil Parkinson needs some added quality up top and he could do with an injection of youth and pace, with his current options in attack ageing, albeit Steven Fletcher is out of contract in the summer.

Phil Parkinson managed Jayden Danns’ dad, and he was class

Parkinson has certainly been about the block but he’s now coming into the prime of his career. And in fact, Parkinson previously managed Danns’ dad Neil Danns at Colchester United, when the striker played for the U’s between 2004 and 2006.

Not only that but Parkinson got the best out of Danns. In his two seasons at the club he scored 28 goals under Parkinson who achieved promotion with Colchester and Danns in 2006.

So Neil could certainly give Jayden a recommendation about working with Parkinson. And Wrexham sells itself. For the Dragons, a loan move for Danns could be a very shrewd summer signing indeed.
