Wrexham duo could make their final ever appearances for club vs Lincoln City as key decisions loom

Wrexham will play out their final game of the 2024/25 League One season later this week against Lincoln City.

Wrexham head into the match having nothing left to play for this term, with their second-place finish guaranteed.

Wrexham won promotion on April 26 when they beat fellow top-two hopefuls Charlton Athletic 3-0 at the Racecourse Ground.

Plans for the Championship season are now beginning to take shape, including a £40m+ outlay on wages.

However, there is still one more game for the Welsh outfit to play out in the third tier for, hopefully, the final time.

Wrexham clash with Lincoln City in a 3pm UK time kick-off on May 3, and it could be the final game for at least two players.

Will Steven Fletcher sign a new contract with Wrexham

Steven Fletcher has had a superb 2024/25 season, playing a key role in Wrexham’s promotion.

Now 38, he is no longer starting matches from the off, but Parkinson thinks Fletcher is ‘almost unplayable’ when he comes off the bench, as he has done in pretty much every game this season.

The Scotsman is sitting on eight League One goals going into the final day – the most of any of the Red Dragons’ centre-forwards.

Fletcher has hinted at continuing playing beyond the current campaign but as of right now, he is yet to agree terms on a fresh contract.

It remains to be seen what Wrexham’s already stocked striker department will look like come August, and if he does not sign a new deal, it’s likely the former Sunderland man will come off the bench one final time against Lincoln.

Mark Howard contract set to run out

As well as Fletcher, several more Wrexham players are out of contract in two months’ time.

Among those is 38-year-old goalkeeper Mark Howard, who will turn 39 one month into the new season.

Howard joined Wrexham from Carlisle United in 2022 on a free transfer and was particularly key to the club securing National League promotion, stepping up amid injuries to the team’s other goalkeepers.

The Englishman also featured 10 times in League One this term, keeping three clean sheets.

If he is to depart on a free, it would be fitting to see Parkinson hand the shot-stopper one final outing this weekend against Lincoln as a reward for his service to Wrexham.
