Wrexham have a horde of players on their transfer shortlist for this summer, and Phil Parkinson could soon have an answer on three of them as a new manager looks set to arrive elsewhere in Wales.
The summer transfer window opened on June 1st but is closed for six days, re-opening for the remainder of the summer on June 16th.
And everyone at Wrexham knows just how crucial a summer it will be in terms of shaping the Dragons’ next few years under Phil Parkinson, and owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
Wrexham are predicted to finish mid-table in the Championship next season. But it’ll prove much easier said than done and Parkinson will know that better than anyone else, having had experiences of the second tier in the past.
This summer, Parkinson wants to sign Championship-experienced players, and where better to sign them than from Championship clubs. Or in the case of Cardiff City, former Championship clubs.

Cardiff City closing in on new managerial appointment
Wrexham are linked with a number of Cardiff City players going into this summer transfer window, the main one being Callum Robinson. The Republic of Ireland international scored 12 goals in a rather terrible Cardiff side last season, ending the season as their top scorer in the league.
But there’s seemingly been a delay over potential player sales in the Welsh capital after the club sacked former boss Omer Riza back in April and failed to immediately replace him. Until now that is, with numerous reports that the Bluebirds are set to hire Brian Barry-Murphy as their new manager ahead of 2025/26.
The former Rochdale manager has worked as the manager of the Manchester City Elite Development Squad and has also worked behind the scenes at Leicester City. Now though, he’s set to take the hotseat in Cardiff and that could have a definite knock-on effect for Wrexham in the transfer market.

The other Cardiff City players linked with Wrexham this summer
Robinson is actually one of three Cardiff City players linked with a move to the Racecourse this summer, with the others being Ollie Tanner and Isaak Davies.
The attacking pair didn’t really blow away the Championship last time round, though both have experience of the second tier and if they’re available on a good deal, they could be shrewd signings for Wrexham this summer.
| Player | Total Champ. games | Goals | Assists |
| Callum Robinson | 272 | 61 | 36 |
| Ollie Tanner | 65 | 4 | 3 |
| Isaak Davies | 47 | 5 | 2 |
And the fact that all three Cardiff players mentioned are attackers suggests that Wrexham and Parkinson are keen on bolstering the frontline more than anywhere else this summer.
That would make sense given Wrexham’s ongoing links to Jamie Vardy, among others like Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt at Leeds United.
