Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac’s arrival in North Wales was met with sheer joy as we reflect on how the town of Wrexham reacted to the Hollywood takeover at first.

Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have changed the landscape of the football club, helping them rise from the mires of the National League to the Championship, having overseen three successive promotions.

Since they joined the club, their influence off the pitch has been just as strong as on it. The Kop Stand was knocked down, with the Wrexham owners deciding to replace it with a state-of-the-art replacement that would not look out of place in the Premier League.

The Red Dragons are enjoying a golden period for the club right now, but things were not so rosy before they took over.

Many years in the National League had taken its toll on the fanbase, and it is safe to say that the new lease of hope that Rob and Ryan provided completely changed the town for the better.

How the town of Wrexham first reacted to Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac’s takeover

Wrexham’s takeover by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac was met with great optimism, and understandably so considering the eyes that the Hollywood pair were able to put on the Welsh club.

The Red Dragons’ presence around the club left the town ‘buzzing’, according to Barry Horne, a former Wrexham player and the former director of football under the Wrexham Supporters’ Trust ownership.

Horne, via Leader Live, said: “The profile of the two of them couldn’t be much higher so all of a sudden it becomes an amazing story.

“The town has been buzzing since the news broke.

“Wrexham Football Club is such a big part of the town. People know about Wrexham because of the football club, because they’ve been a football league club over the years with famous FA Cup wins and playing in Europe too.

“It’s a dream come true for the fans but someone acting for the bidders must have been charged with the responsibility of finding a suitable football club to buy.

“I have heard rumours that other clubs were considered but no club at the level they appear to be looking at came close to Wrexham.

“Wrexham does tick all the boxes. It has a good, solid fanbase, doesn’t need a new stadium building, you can buy it for a relatively small price and it comes debt-free.”

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac will never regret their Wrexham takeover

The Hollywood A-listers were immediately hooked on football and Wrexham when they took over the club. They faced woe and hardship in the first season after they missed out on promotion from the National League, and that helped the pair grow more of a connection to the club and the town.

In fact, Rob Mac has been so in love with the club that he admitted it gave him ‘one of the greatest moments of my entire life’.

When Wrexham were leading 3-2 going into stoppage time against Notts County in the National League, Ben Foster produced a last-minute penalty save to win the game.

Ryan Reynolds agreed with his fellow Wrexham owner, having said: “I simply characterise it the exact same way, aside from my family, which I’m required to say, that was the greatest moment of my entire life.”

Hopefully, there will be more memorable moments to come for Wrexham, who are now looking to make themselves known in the lofty heights of the Championship.
