Paul Mullin’s long-term Wrexham future remains up in the air, but the striker has previously left the door open to playing for the Dragons again.

Paul Mullin will go down in history as one of the Red Dragons’ all-time greatest players.

His 110 goals helped Wrexham win three promotions in a row and reach the second tier of English football for the first time in 43 years.

However, Mullin was dropped by Phil Parkinson in late January before leaving the Racecourse Ground in June to join Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan.

But he is under contract with Wrexham until 2027, and the forward has previously left the door open to featuring again.

Season 4 of Welcome to Wrexham aired over the summer, and Mullin’s rocky 2024/25 was one of the main talking points.

The striker discussed Parkinson losing trust in him in the second half of last season after he lost his place in the League One matchday squad post-Stevenage.

Despite not playing from February onwards, however, Mullin dreams of playing in the Championship for Wrexham and left the door open to a return, saying ‘who knows’ when discussing if it will happen.

He said: “Just to play one game in the Championship at Wrexham would be worth absolutely everything, be the icing on the cake for this story, who knows where it could end.

“I’ve enjoyed absolutely every minute here.”

Paul Mullin on playing for Wigan Athletic

Since departing North Wales, Mullin’s form has improved at Wigan.

He already has three League One goals this term, which is as many as he managed across all of 2024/25.

Crucially, Mullin is enjoying playing again, commenting on his time with the Latics so far in an interview earlier this month.

He said: “I’m absolutely loving being here [Wigan]. After a successful few years, I came here wanting to play more football.

“The manager has been absolutely fantastic, giving me a lot. He’s refreshed me in many ways – the work he does on the training pitch, the hard work he puts in, and the help he’s given me have been fantastic.

“The group I’ve come into – every player has been brilliant. We’re all working towards a common goal, and we’ve got togetherness. Setbacks happen in football, but it’s about responding right after the last week.

“I’m loving life here and really enjoying playing on the pitch.”
