Big update on Christian Eriksen’s future after Wrexham hold talks to sign former Man United player

Christian Eriksen continues to be linked with a move to Wrexham, but less than a few days until the start of the new Championship season, it’s looking as though a move for the Danish legend is unlikely.

Earlier this summer, Christian Eriksen was released by Manchester United, and the 33-year-old soon had links to the Racecourse. It was rumoured that Wrexham were looking into a move for Eriksen, but the links eventually went cold, with many deeming it to be too far-fetched and overly ambitious from Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac’s team.

But then, just last month, reports revealed how Eriksen had held talks with Wrexham. It was understood that Wrexham had made their approach to sign the former Spurs and Manchester United player, and Eriksen’s agent even suggested that a move to North Wales was an option.

Another week has passed and Eriksen’s links to Wales have died down yet again.

Wrexham transfer target Christian Eriksen handed Premier League lifeline

There is now a new update on Eriksen’s future. He remains a free agent and remains a target for teams around the world, but Daily Mail insist that Eriksen remains keen on playing in West Europe and playing top-tier football. A lifeline may now have emerged too, with the same report from Daily Mail revealing that Burnley have made an approach to sign Eriksen this summer.

The Clarets won promotion from the Championship last season, finishing in second place but level on 100 points with eventual title winners Leeds United. Managed by Scott Parker, Burnley have made some impressive moves in the transfer window this summer and could be an attractive potential option for Eriksen.

A move to Wrexham then might now be well out of the question for Eriksen, who could remain in the Premier League for another season at least if he does now join Burnley.

What Phil Parkinson said about Wrexham’s interest in Christian Eriksen

There is no denying now that Wrexham have a concrete interest in Eriksen. Not only have reports revealed dialogue between the two, but manager Phil Parkinson has also confirmed that he has spoken with the Dane.

Speaking recently, Parkinson said of his talks with Eriksen: “There was a call, a bit of dialogue over the summer, but it’s not gone any further than that. But obviously he’s a majorly talented player and very well respected throughout football.”

With new midfielders having arrived in Lewis O’Brien and George Thomason, it’s looking unlikely that the Dragons need another and especially a midfielder who’d cost so much in wages.

Meanwhile, it’s been reported that Elliot Lee could leave Wrexham before the end of the summer transfer window, which suggests that Parkinson already thinks his midfield options are bloated without considering a move for Eriksen.

Wrexham play Southampton in their opening day fixture on Saturday with kick-off at 12.30pm.
