Wrexham snapped up Dominic Hyam on transfer deadline day, but only after missing out on another defensive target.
Wrexham brought in three more signings on deadline day a fortnight ago, as Phil Parkinson ended the transfer window with a flourish.
Deals for Ben Sheaf and Issa Kabore were complete before Dominic Hyam became Wrexham’s final signing of the window.
Hyam joined Wrexham in a £2.7million move from Blackburn Rovers and was named on the bench against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

Bristol City boss on Wrexham move for Zak Vyner
Hyam will offer competition at the back, but Wrexham only wrapped up a deal for him after missing out on Bristol City’s Zak Vyner.
Wrexham failed to tempt Bristol City into selling Vyner, even though he has just one year left on his contract.
Bristol City were delighted to keep Vyner out of Wrexham’s clutches and turned down multiple seven-figure bids before the deadline.
Vyner started for Bristol City on Saturday afternoon, helping the Robins secure a 3-0 away win at Sheffield Wednesday.
Vyner has played every minute of Bristol City’s campaign to date, so their strong stance against selling him to Wrexham certainly makes sense.
Bristol City boss Gerhard Struber has now offered comments on Vyner’s situation while speaking to Bristol Live.
Struber admitted that it was not easy for Bristol City to turn down Wrexham’s approaches for Vyner, with ‘a lot of money’ on offer.
The Austrian noted that selling Vyner to Wrexham would do ‘big damage’ to the Robins, and is delighted to have kept the defender away from the STōK Cae Ras.
“I would say from one side, it’s very good to see how I can rely on many things,” said Struber. “What we spoke and what we agree together. Also, it’s not so easy from the owner’s standpoint when you have, in the end, an offer on the table for a player and they pay a lot of money – and I can tell you this was a big amount for our football club – and the owner says still, ‘No we don’t do it, the player stays here.’
“For us, it’s super important that Zak Vyner is already a player from Bristol City with our goals, and I told you that. He’s a face from the club, he grew here, and I think this would be a big damage in the end when we would lose him. So I am very happy that we do it here on the right way.
“I think the big advantage was that from the first day that I was here, I’m always in a good exchange with Zaky. Our relationship, I would say, is on a very good level and very helpful for this situation.
“I think this helps in the end, also, and of course, that we stay here also clear together. He’s an important player, and in this direction, he knows what he has from me, from the club, from the team. He realised that, and I would say Zak is super happy to be here.
“At the same time, I understand also that maybe after so many years here in the club, you contemplate or realise also other offers and be open to speak about that. This is normal, this is the football business, and we have to deal with that, but I would say we did it very professionally, and the relationship with Zak was in the end very, very helpful, that we were so close together, and we had a really good exchange,” he added.

Wrexham could return for Zak Vyner in 2026
Bristol City can feel relieved to have kept hold of Vyner, but the threat of Wrexham returning in 2026 cannot be overlooked.
Hyam is a quality Championship defender and may ideally be viewed as competition for Conor Coady in the heart of defence, with Dan Scarr potentially on his way out down the line.
That could leave Wrexham in the market for another right-sided centre-back, and Vyner is ideal for that role in a back three.
Vyner’s contract situation means Wrexham will surely keep tabs on his situation for a potential move in 2026, either in January or at the end of the season.
The Robins will now pursue a new contract with Vyner in the coming months, and will be wary of Wrexham coming knocking on their door once more in January.
