Wrexham continue to chase Ipswich Town forward Nathan Broadhead, but the Welshman featured in a pre-season friendly for the Tractor Boys on Saturday.

Wrexham’s recruitment continues, with Phil Parkinson making his latest addition on Friday.

Conor Coady joined the Wrexham journey, with the experienced defender completing a move from Leicester City.

The former Liverpool man brings bags of experience from spells with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton and Leicester.

Coady’s arrival will not mark the end of Wrexham’s business, though, with Kieffer Moore undergoing a medical this weekend.

Moore may be joined by a familiar face, with Wrexham pushing to snap up Ipswich Town attacker Nathan Broadhead.

Nathan Broadhead features for Ipswich Town

Moore and Broadhead won promotion together at Ipswich Town and have even played together for the Welsh national team.

Wrexham are pushing to sign both players, though Moore’s deal certainly appears to be further along.

Reports in midweek suggested that Wrexham had thrashed out a deal to sign Broadhead for around £7.5million.

No agreement is in place just yet, though, even if Wrexham are confident of signing Broadhead soon enough.

Wrexham were beaten by FC Groningen on Saturday, but Championship rivals Ipswich beat French side Auxerre 3-0.

Despite ongoing speculation around his future, Broadhead came off the bench for a second-half appearance.

Ipswich could have easily left Broadhead at home, either to avoid potential injury ahead of a possible exit or in case he wasn’t in the right headspace to play, given the rampant rumours.

Broadhead still made an appearance, though, and that suggests Ipswich are not anticipating an absolutely imminent departure.

Kieran McKenna on Nathan Broadhead

Ipswich boss McKenna spoke to the East Anglian Daily Times about Broadhead’s future, confirming that there is ‘interest’ from Wrexham.

Broadhead spent time in the Wrexham youth ranks before leaving for Everton at the age of 10, and McKenna admitted that the attacker still has ‘an affinity’ to Wrexham.

McKenna believes that Ipswich must be ‘proud’ of interest in their players, and feels that Broadhead has been ‘important’ and will continue to be so until a deal is done.

“I think it’s well-publicised that there’s interest there from Wrexham, which is a club that he has an affinity to,” McKenna explained.

“He also has a great affinity to Ipswich, and he’s been a really, really important player for us. In all these situations, as a club – especially moving between divisions – there’s always going to be more movement and live situations than you’d want in pre-season.

“When other clubs want our players, it’s also something we should be proud of, because it probably wasn’t that long ago that there wasn’t that much interest in Ipswich players as there is now.

“Nathan’s an Ipswich player. So long as he’s here, he’ll be an important player for us. We are, of course, lighter in those positions than we’d want to be anyway, especially after today. We’ll see how the situation plays out, but he’s an important player for us and someone we think very highly of,” he added.

Ipswich also saw Jaden Philogene pick up an injury problem against Auxerre, which may just impact the immediate future of fellow winger Broadhead.

If Wrexham are confident of a deal, we would imagine that Broadhead will sign eventually, but whether he is signed before facing Southampton next weekend is another matter.
