Wrexham made an ambitious approach to sign Christian Eriksen this summer, and the playmaker is finally set to join a new club.

Wrexham were backed to spend money this summer, having clinched promotion to the Championship.

The Premier League is now just one promotion away, and Wrexham have gone big in the transfer market.

Wrexham outspent Barcelona this summer and racked up more than £30million in transfer fees.

Wrexham have shown serious ambition, but were unable to tempt Christian Eriksen into making a stunning move to the STōK Cae Ras.

Christian Eriksen finally set to join new club after snubbing Wrexham

Eriksen was linked with Wrexham early in the window as he came to the end of his Manchester United contract.

In truth, the rumours seemed a little pie-in-the-sky at that stage, but there was some validity to the speculation.

Eriksen’s agent confirmed contact with Wrexham and heaped praise on CEO Michael Williamson, having previously crossed paths at Inter Milan, but the approach was ultimately snubbed.

Phil Parkinson admitted his interest in Eriksen, though Wrexham’s pursuit didn’t extend too far beyond a phone call.

Eriksen has started the season as a free agent, leaving some fans still dreaming of a deal being done for the playmaker.

However, Tipsbladet in Eriksen’s native Denmark now report that the former United ace has agreed to sign for Bundesliga club Wolfsburg.

Eriksen is believed to have flown into Germany on Wednesday, and he will now undergo a medical ahead of finalising his move to the Bundesliga.

Wolfsburg’s Managing Director of Sport, Peter Christiansen, is a Dane himself and is believed to have convinced Eriksen to make the move.

Any lingering hope of seeing Eriksen at the STōK Cae Ras now appears to have been extinguished, with the 33-year-old now ready to return to action with Wolfsburg.

Christian Eriksen slammed before Wolfsburg move

Eriksen will now complete the formalities ahead of his move to Wolfsburg and bring an end to months of speculation over his future.

Eriksen has recently trained with Malmö, staying fit with the Swedish side ahead of a potential move elsewhere.

Few really expected Eriksen to join Malmö, but former Denmark ace Thomas Gravesen shared his anger.

“It is incomprehensible to me that he chooses Malmö. It is not a club that he can go to because he cannot sign a contract with them, and we have some clubs in Denmark that are much, much better than Malmö,” said Gravesen.

“This looks like a friendly thing, where Christian Eriksen is over and having fun with some friends. Where is the ambition to play football? We talk about him being without a club for three months, but he has been without a club since January because he has been able to sign a contract with a new club ever since. He has been dragging his feet on it for a long time.

“If he wants to play for the national team, what signal does this send? What signal does going up and having fun with friends in Malmö send? I don’t understand it. It seems frivolous in some ways. If he had ambitions, he would have gone to a higher-level club. For me, it is not ambitious enough to go to Malmö and have fun. Who sees him there?” he added.

A move to Wrexham certainly would have been considered ambitious, even if not the ‘higher-level club’ that Gravesen wanted.

It’s unclear whether Wrexham have even kept tabs on Eriksen’s situation, but Gravesen will surely be pleased to see the playmaker head to Germany’s top flight.
