Wrexham want to add Premier League quality to their squad next season.

Phil Parkinson wants to keep a winning mentality amongst his Wrexham squad but has recognised that he will need to sprinkle some quality additions to cope with the step up to the Championship.

Christian Eriksen’s staggering wages mean that he is likely to be beyond the financial reach of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

However, Wrexham are interested in Tommy Doyle and feel as though they could lure the midfielder to the Racecourse Ground ahead of rivals. His former manager Gary O’Neill once shared exactly why Parkinson is interested.

Gary O’Neill lauded character of Wrexham target Tommy Doyle

Parkinson likes a strong team culture within every side that he has managed and refuses to sign players with a bad attitude or ego.

Speaking on The ‘Wolves Express’ podcast back in May 2024, former boss O’Neill was full of praise for the character of Doyle both on and off the pitch.

O’Neill stated: “He’s a great signing for the club in more than what he will give on the pitch, I can’t speak highly enough of how he has been around the training ground,

“You have certain players that are really high maintenance and take a lot of your time and a lot of your effort and constantly trying to nudge them in the right direction, whereas I don’t spend much of my time worrying about what Tommy Doyle is going to be like in training or in the game,

“He’s just a real good one to have in the group.”

A Wolves expert’s verdict on Doyle shows that the 23-year-old should be a great fit into Wrexham’s midfield on the pitch and O’Neill’s words about his commitment off the pitch will be music to Parkinson’s ears.

What Tommy Doyle’s arrival could mean for Elliot Lee

Elliot Lee is a player that has risen up the leagues with Wrexham but found first-team opportunities limited towards the end of the League One campaign.

Wrexham’s interest in Myles Peart-Harris was deemed to be bad news for Lee’s position at the club and further interest in Doyle would only push him further down the pecking if both players were signed.

Lee backed Parkinson’s dressing room culture in recent comments but may feel that despite his unbelievable success and memories with the Red Dragons, his time could be up at the club.

At 30 years of age, Lee still has a lot to give the game and his career is far from being over; however, the midfielder will want regular first-team football and that is looking a distant possibility if he stays with Wrexham.
