Josh Windass looks set to join Wrexham after leaving Sheffield Wednesday, with a medical taking place on Monday.

Wrexham were also able to announce a new signing on Monday, with Bolton Wanderers captain George Thomason joining the club.

Thomason underwent a Wrexham medical over the weekend and missed Bolton’s preseason friendly win over Hibernian to complete the formalities.

George Thomason on his style of play

Wrexham announced Thomason’s signature on Monday evening, with the midfielder completing a £1.2million switch.

Thomason has said an emotional goodbye to Bolton, having departed as captain after five-and-a-half years at the club.

The 24-year-old has proven himself at League One level and is now ready to compete in the Championship.

Speaking to Wrexham’s official YouTube channel, Thomason has explained his style of play and what he will bring to Wrexham.

Thomason admitted loving the all-action nature of being a midfielder, from scoring goals and creating chances to getting stuck in and contributing defensively.

Thomason also talked about his ‘determination and passion’, vowing to run himself into the ground for the Wrexham cause.

“These days in football, especially in midfield, you can get shoehorned into different things, but I just like to be a midfielder who gets involved in all sides of the game,” said Thomason.

“I like to attack and score goals and be creative, but I also like to run back the other side into my own box and defend crosses, track my men and really get stuck in. I’m someone that wears my heart on my sleeve, I show great determination and passion, and I will really run myself in the ground.

“I hope I can resonate to the fans, because I really will put my all into getting better and leaving it all out there, come a Saturday or Tuesday,” he added.

That mentality is exactly what Phil Parkinson is looking for, and goes some way to explaining why Wrexham have pounced to sign him this summer.

Wrexham are a real team unit, and everybody coming into the club must buy into that approach.

Thomason is certainly willing to put himself on the line for the team, and his never-say-die attitude makes him a great fit under Parkinson.

George Thomason on Wrexham rise

Wrexham fans will certainly get behind Thomason if he brings that determination to the STōK Cae Ras.

This rise through the leagues may have been backed by Hollywood duo Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, but grit and determination have been the backbone behind Wrexham’s success on the pitch.

Thomason looks to be a fine fit in that regard, and also commented on watching Wrexham’s growth from afar.

Thomason believes Wrexham are ‘progressive’ and the ideal place for him to develop as a player, with Championship action a clear attraction.

“I’ve been able to watch Wrexham’s journey in recent years, from the outside looking in,” said Thomason.

“It’s a place which is progressive. They’ve been successful both on and off the pitch, and right now, personally speaking, the football club is in the Championship, and that feels not only a big attraction to me as a footballer, but it’s somewhere that I really think can take my own game and personal development to the next level.

Wrexham have chased a left-footed midfielder all summer long, and now have one with Thomason signed, sealed and delivered.
