Wrexham have added summer signing number four after completing the signing of Bolton Wanderers midfielder George Thomason.

Wrexham’s opening Championship game against Southampton is now less than three weeks away, and Phil Parkinson is ramping up his recruitment plans.

Josh Windass is poised to join Wrexham after leaving Sheffield Wednesday, while Liberato Cacace arrived from Empoli on Friday.

Windass should be a Wrexham player in the coming days, but Parkinson has now secured his fourth summer signing.

George Thomason has now joined Wrexham in a deal believed to be worth around £1.2million, departing League One side Bolton Wanderers in the process.

Bolton Wanderers boss explains selling George Thomason to Wrexham

Wrexham were first linked with Thomason last week, overtaking Huddersfield Town in the race for his signature.

Thomason then missed Bolton’s pre-season clash with Hibernian as he put the finishing touches on his Wrexham move.

The deal is now done, with Thomason penning a three-year deal with Wrexham as he continues his journey up through the leagues.

Bolton boss Steven Schumacher has now offered his reaction to the move, having lost his captain to Wrexham.

Schumacher has told Bolton’s official website that he feels Thomason has been an ‘excellent servant’ to the Trotters, praising his hard work and development.

Schumacher added that the chance to move to Wrexham is a ‘good opportunity’ for Thomason, and wished him all the best at the STōK Cae Ras.

“George has been an excellent servant to this football club. His development here is a credit to his own hard work and the environment we aim to create,” said Schumacher.

“We are constantly evaluating the squad to ensure we have the right profile to achieve our ultimate objective, and sometimes that process involves making difficult decisions.

“This move represents a good opportunity for George. It also provides value to the club that we can use to continue strengthening. We thank him for his fantastic contribution and wish him nothing but success for the future,” he added.

George Thomason’s emotional goodbye to Bolton Wanderers

Thomason has spent more than five years at Bolton, and the decision to leave won’t have been an easy one, despite the offer of Championship football.

Before finalising his move to Wrexham, Thomason offered an emotional goodbye message to supporters.

Thomason noted that he wants a new challenge and a new environment to aid his own development, believing that the time had come for a change.

Thomason added his appreciation for the Bolton fans, having supported him from his arrival as a teenager through to his exit as club captain.

“I’ve spent five-and-a-half wonderful years at this fantastic football club, but I feel as though I’ve reached a point in my personal and professional career where it’s time for a new challenge and a new environment, and something new for my own personal development,” said Thomason.

“I want to say a massive thank you to everyone that has shown me support and love throughout my time here. You’ve been there to watch me grow from being a boy to a man, which is rare, and you’ve stuck by me the whole way. It’s not always been easy, I understand that it never is easy being a footballer or a football fan, but I’m so grateful for all the packed away ends where you’ve been cheering the team on and chanting my name, for the home games where you’ve created special atmospheres, those things will live long with me.

Wrexham fans will hope to see Thomason make a fast start to life as a Championship player, and Bolton fans seem sad to watch him leave ahead of the new season.
