Wrexham have completed their first bit of business in the month of January, though it’s probably not what fans were hoping for.

Over two weeks of the 2025 winter transfer are now behind us and fans are still waiting for a new player to arrive at the Racecourse Ground.

Danny Rohl commented on Wrexham target Michael Smith this week, though a deal doesn’t seem close.

The Red Dragons are interested in Jayden Daynns of Liverpool as well, but he’s got a lot of suitors from clubs around the EFL, including in the Championship.

Now, while it’s not the most exciting news, something has finally happened in Wales this week.

Wrexham player signs contract extension

Wrexham have had some rotten luck on the injury front this season, especially in the goalkeeper department.

Arthur Okonkwo was sidelined for a lengthy period and in his place, Callum Burton suffered a long-term injury that could keep him out for the season.

In turn, the Welsh outfit looked to the free agent market and brought in Brad Foster on a short-term deal.

However, Wrexham have now confirmed on Friday that the shot-stopper has agreed terms on a fresh contract that will keep him at the club until the end of 2024/25 with the option of a further year.

On signing his new deal, Foster told the club’s official website: “I’ve been enjoying my time here and it’s nice to be here for the rest of the season.

“It was tough to be thrown in for my debut against Crewe, having not played since pre-season, but it was great to get the win – which was the most important thing – and the clean sheet was a bonus for me too.

“My target now is to just keep improving in training, do the job Aidan Davison needs me to do, to get my head down and earn my place here.

“It’s a good group, all the lads have been great and it’s nice to be a part of it.”

Phil Parkinson comments on Brad Foster Wrexham contract

Foster was named Man of the Match by Wrexham fans during his debut for the club in December.

He completed 90 minutes in an EFL Trophy clash against Crewe Alexandra, keeping a clean sheet in the 1-0 win.

On his new contract, Phil Parkinson added: “Brad’s trained really well and he’s a good addition for us, and we look forward to continuing to work with him.”

Okonkwo is expected to keep his starting berth but at least fans can now rest easy knowing their club’s goalkeeper department is well-stocked if any more injuries arise.
