Wrexham made a last-ditch attempt to sign Christian Eriksen after the transfer window had closed, Wrexham Insider understands.

Phil Parkinson named his Championship squad but left a space open to leave Wrexham the option of adding a free agent.

Wrexham were interested in Dele Alli, however, it now looks as though midfielder Ollie Rathbone will be named as the 25th member after recovering from injury sooner than expected.

The Red Dragons monitored Eriksen’s situation all summer and it has now been revealed the club were in contact with his camp right up until his final decision.

Wrexham contacted Christian Eriksen after the summer transfer window

Eriksen has joined German side Wolfsburg as the midfielder finally gets his wish of joining a top-flight side.

Wrexham held talks with Eriksen throughout the summer but the Dane was not willing to drop into the Championship as he felt he could still give something at the very highest level.

Wrexham Insider’s chief transfer expert Graeme Bailey has revealed that Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac made a last-ditch attempt to sign Eriksen after the transfer deadline on September 1st.

Bailey stated: “we understand that Wrexham did have further conversations with his people after the window closed – mainly checking on him and his stance over dropping into Championship.

“They still had a little hope he would be open to the idea but he obvs got his wish of top flight football with Wolfsburg.”

Wrexham’s attempt at signing Christian Eriksen shows there is still scope for January transfer business

Wrexham’s owners have a 2027 target for the Premier League, however, what will be interesting is their stance during the January transfer window.

Should Parkinson guide his team into promotion contention during the first half of the season, the owners may well try and splash the cash once again to help push the Red Dragons over the line.

Wrexham’s attempt at signing Eriksen shows there is still significant money in the budget for transfers as the Dane would have easily become the club’s highest earner.

Spending in January is not a problem for the club, Wrexham are well within FFP rules and could really press home any inroads they make on the second tier.
