Wrexham showed some frailties during their Championship defeat to West Brom that need fixing.
Phil Parkinson slammed his team for being ‘too soft’ in their defending that allowed Isaac Price and Jed Wallace to fire the Baggies to three points at the Racecourse Ground.
Wrexham fans were furious with Danny Ward for his part in the second goal and there was further bad news with Josh Windass going off with a hamstring injury.
The Red Dragons want some defensive reinforcements and Wrexham are ‘closing in’ on Callum Doyle from Manchester City. Their business may not end there.

Wrexham transfer target Chris Mepham wants regular first-team football
Wrexham are interested in Chris Mepham after the Wales international returned to Bournemouth from his season-long loan spell at Sunderland last season.
Parkinson is keen to bolster defensive options after seeing several mistakes against the Baggies and Mepham is a player that holds international and Championship experience.
According to Team Talk, Mepham wants regular first-team football this season as he wants to cement his place in the Wales squad ahead of a potential World Cup campaign next summer.
The report states: “Mepham’s immediate availability means that deal is far simpler for Wrexham to complete and that could now be accelerated.
“Mepham, 27, has one year left on his contract so a permanent deal rather than a loan switch is the more likely.
“He wants regular first team football to cement his spot in the Wales national side and will move on this month with Wrexham among his potential destinations.”
Chris Mepham is another signing that would add valuable Championship experience to Wrexham
Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris labelled Mepham as ‘impressive’ during his loan spell at the Stadium of Light last season as per the Northern Echo.
Lewis Brunt looked out of his depth against West Brom and Parkinson could do with one or two more experienced defenders at this level to help Brunt through the campaign.
| Chris Mepham’s Championship record | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Mepham | 127 | 3 | 1 |
The 27-year-old was a big part of Sunderland’s promotion campaign and is a powerful presence in both boxes with his aerial ability.
He would be a welcome addition to the back three and if Wrexham can secure his signature alongside City star Doyle, their squad would be looking a lot healthier heading into the season.
