Wrexham have been linked with a number of potential midfield signings, and Phil Parkinson looks set to receive an answer on one target.

Ryan Hardie became Wrexham’s first summer signing last week, completing a move from Plymouth Argyle.

The 28-year-old arrives as a proven Championship forward, with Wrexham paying a bargain £700,000 for Hardie’s signature.

Paul Mullin’s move to Wigan Athletic is dominating the conversation around Wrexham right now, as the heroic goalscorer starts a new chapter away from the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham will press on with attempts to make new signings, with Tom Cairney a name on Phil Parkinson’s radar.

Tom Cairney set to give Wrexham answer

Speculation ran rampant in May as Wrexham were linked with Cairney.

The rumours suggested Wrexham were willing to offer Cairney big wages, with his Fulham contract coming to an end.

Fulham offered Cairney a new deal, leaving the veteran midfielder with a big decision on his hands.

Give Me Sport now claim that Cairney is expected to contact Wrexham boss Parkinson in the coming days.

Cairney is set to come to a decision on his future, with the report suggesting that he is now leaning towards staying at Craven Cottage.

Cairney started just three Premier League games this past season, but is allegedly willing to fight for his place in West London.

The 34-year-old is now expected to snub Wrexham, but Parkinson and co will hold out hope until that final decision is communicated.

Wrexham have Tom Cairney alternatives in mind

If Cairney does stay at Fulham, Wrexham will be ready to move on to other targets in midfield.

Wrexham appear to be targeting a left-footed midfielder, and Cairney is far from the only name linked in that regard.

Barry Bannan is on Wrexham’s radar and fits a similar bill to Cairney in terms of being an experienced playmaker.

Sheffield Wednesday have offered Bannan a new contract, but their financial situation may tempt Bannan into moving on.

Wrexham are also eyeing Lewis O’Brien of Nottingham Forest, while Reading’s Charlie Savage has been tracked by Parkinson and co.

Cairney’s contract ends on 30 June, so a decision in the coming days certainly makes sense, and Wrexham won’t waste any time in focusing on other options to bolster Parkinson’s midfield.
