Wrexham are looking to secure new signings ahead of the Championship season, with big money potentially set to be spent.

Wrexham’s pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand continues, though Phil Parkinson tasted defeat on Tuesday morning.

Sydney FC beat Wrexham 2-1 at the Allianz Stadium, with Parkinson’s side ending up on the losing side despite taking the lead.

Pre-season is more about fitness than performances or results, but Parkinson would surely have hoped for more new faces to be on this trip Down Under.

Wrexham have signed Danny Ward and Ryan Hardie this summer, securing two signings despite links with many, many more additions.

Ward was a free transfer, and Hardie cost Wrexham just £700,000, so reports of Wrexham splashing the cash have yet to come to fruition.

Speculation suggests Wrexham may well set a new transfer record this summer, though, so here are some names Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds could invest in just months after Sam Smith’s £2million move from Reading.

Lewis O’Brien

Wrexham’s top target appears to be Lewis O’Brien, with the midfielder having no future at Nottingham Forest.

Reports suggest Wrexham are willing to pay £5million for O’Brien, though wages could be a problem.

£5million would be an enormous fee for Wrexham to pay, more than twice the figure paid for Smith in January.

O’Brien’s proven Championship record means Wrexham may well believe that £5million is well-spent in an attempt to boost Parkinson’s midfield.

Charlie Savage

Wrexham could go back to Reading once again, this time to land a player with Wrexham connections in Charlie Savage.

Reports suggest Wrexham are interested in signing Savage, with The Mirror claiming that a deal would likely eclipse the fee paid for Smith.

Savage is another left-footed midfielder, just like O’Brien, and he may be a fallback option if the Forest man doesn’t arrive.

Savage is the son of Wrexham-born Robbie Savage, and still has family in the area, so a move may really appeal to the midfielder.

Liberato Cacace

Wrexham are yet to shop abroad under Parkinson, but speculation suggests that could change this summer.

Reports claim Wrexham want to sign Liberato Cacace from Empoli, with the left-back expected to leave after relegation from Serie A.

Cacace is valued at around £3.5million, meaning he could become Wrexham’s record signing this summer.

The New Zealand international is a man in demand, but he is certainly one to watch in the coming weeks.

Davis Keillor-Dunn

Perhaps the least likely signing on the list as things stand, Wrexham are interested in Davis Keillor-Dunn.

The Barnsley star previously had a brief spell at Wrexham, spending half a season at the club in 2020.

Reports suggest Wrexham are still keeping tabs on Keillor-Dunn for a possible return, with a price tag of around £3million mentioned.

Paying that kind of money for a player who left Wrexham for free five years ago may not be to everybody’s taste, but Keillor-Dunn is a name on the Wrexham radar.
