Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have now been told what Wrexham must do in the January transfer window.

The 2025 winter transfer window is now less than two weeks away and the Red Dragons are expected to be active.

Phil Parkinson was allowed to bring nine new players to the Racecourse Ground over the summer, with a further three free agents arriving at the club in the last couple of months.

Wrexham want to offer Matty James a new contract after he excelled as a replacement for George Evans -his current deal expires at the end of December.

As well as keeping James at the club for the remainder of 2024/25, at least one new face should arrive in Wales.

Wrexham are targeting a striker in January, with several names already linked with a move.

Ahead of what could be a busy month, however, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have now been sent a transfer warning.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds sent Wrexham transfer warning

Since they took over the club in 2021, Wrexham’s business has been largely solid.

There has been the odd flop here and there but with Parkinson in charge of transfers, there has been little to complain about.

Now though, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman, speaking to Football League World, has urged the Wrexham owners to find the right balance in the winter window and only sign players who will go straight into the eleven.

He said: “Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mclehenney need to remember it’s all about balance. If they were to go big in the January window and go all-out for promotion, they could very easily damage the equilibrium and spirit in the dressing room. I experienced a similar scenario at Wolves, when we brought in around half a dozen players and it upset our spirit within the dressing room.

“Although I’m sure they’ve got the money to buy players and spend big, they have to get the balance right. If they’re going to bring players in, they need to make sure the policy is quality over quantity.

“If you look at the team which drew with Cambridge at the weekend, most of them were at the club last season in League Two. They did a little bit of business in the summer but stuck with the majority of players who did so well last season, I don’t think they’ll go mad in January as they didn’t in the summer.

“They need to focus on bringing in players who will go straight into the starting lineup.”

What Phil Parkinson said about Wrexham January transfer window

The Red Dragons boss has already spoken about the club’s plans for the upcoming transfer window.

His comments opened the door for Sam Dalby to return to Wrexham after he excelled on loan at Dundee United in the first half of 2024/25 – scoring eight goals.

Parkinson hinted at potential exits from the Racecourse as well, with some players not seeing as much action as they might like.

He said: “We’ve got other players who’ve been out the frame and may want to go so there’s a lot of decisions to be made.

“My job is to to sit down with everybody and make sure we make the right ones and keep the momentum we’ve got.”
