Wrexham can wave goodbye to one transfer target as Championship move ruled out, Celtic move suggested instead

Wrexham have big plans for the summer transfer window. As ever, though, their plans and what actually comes to fruition could prove very different.

Phil Parkinson is eyeing up a big overhaul this summer with his Wrexham side needing to really stock up ahead of what will prove to be a very difficult Championship campaign.

Parkinson wants to sign experienced Championship players this summer in a bid to give his side the know-how next season, whilst ruling out any superstar signings at the Racecourse too.

There are several players linked with Wrexham right now, including some top names like Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney who has reportedly been offered a £50,000-a-week contract to join Wrexham this summer.

Whether that comes to life remains to be seen. As does a potential deal for Jamie Vardy. The veteran striker is set to become a free agent this summer and Wrexham have been strongly linked with a move for Vardy in the build up to the summer transfer window.

Chris Sutton says Wrexham transfer target Jamie Vardy is a good fit for Celtic

There’s a lot of talk about where Vardy might end up next. It’s been suggested that Vardy has interest from the MLS this summer, along with the likes of Wrexham, whilst newly-promoted Premier League club Leeds United are also rumoured to be interested in signing the 38-year-old as a free agent.

Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off though, pundit Chris Sutton has suggested that Celtic could be a good fit for Vardy. Journalist Ian Ladyman started by confirming that Vardy’s camp doesn’t want to play for a Championship side next season, saying: “The brief from Vardy’s camp is that he doesn’t want to play in the Championship. So, you know, your options are pretty narrow there then, aren’t they?

“If you don’t want all of those things, if you don’t want Saudi, you don’t want the Championship, America might not be an option. You’ve got to ask yourself what your options are there.”

Sutton then said: “What about maybe north of the border, Celtic?” to which Ladyman replied: “That would be something, wouldn’t it? That would be worth watching. That’s a good shout.”

Harry Redknapp has given Jamie Vardy to Wrexham his seal of approval

There’s certainly options out there for Vardy. It’d be understandable that he doesn’t want to play for a Championship club, and a move to Celtic could be enticing. But a Championship move, and a move to Wrexham, could be another fairy-tale chapter in his likewise career.

And speaking recently, Harry Redknapp gave his verdict on Vardy to Wrexham, suggesting that it’d be a great move for the club. He said: “Jamie Vardy would be a fantastic signing for Wrexham. He could get any team promoted next season from the Championship, I still think he has a lot to offer in a team that can make chances for him. It would be a great move for Wrexham.”

But given the fact that Wrexham will play Leicester City in the Championship next season and that Vardy still thinks he can cut it at the top level, it seems like Parkinson is quickly saying goodbye to any chances he and Wrexham have of signing Vardy this summer.
