Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has given his verdict on a couple of players linked with Wrexham. Needless to say, he’s not all that impressed.

Wrexham are linked with several players right now with some really exciting rumours for fans to keep an eye on, with the summer transfer window opening on June 1st for clubs in the English Football League.

Perhaps the most exciting rumour of them all is Tom Cairney. Wrexham are being linked with Cairney at Fulham with the 34-year-old’s contract set to expire in the summer. He could land a £50,000-a-week contract at the Racecourse, per reports.

Elsewhere, Phil Parkinson is looking to the rival Welsh clubs for new signings. Wrexham are interested in Harry Darling who’s out of contract at Swansea City, whilst the Dragons have their eyes on a number of Cardiff City players.

All of Callum Robinson, Ollie Tanner, and Isaak Davies are linked with Wrexham right now.

David Prutton gives his verdict on Isaak Davies and Ollie Tanner to Wrexham

Robinson was the first to be linked with a move to the Racecourse. Soon after, Wrexham Insider revealed that Wrexham are interested in Tanner and Davies as well, with Cardiff City looking set for a clear out following their relegation to League One.

Speaking to Football League World though, Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has suggested that he’s not all too impressed by the links, labelling attacking duo Davies and Tanner as ‘solid’ players, nothing more.

Prutton said: “I think the consensus with Davies is that he’s a striker that offers something different to the likes of Steven Fletcher, who are moving on from Wrexham. I think Ollie Tanner and the position he plays, he’s more effective as a winger, whereas you’ve got a Wrexham side that don’t set up with out-and-out wingers.”

Prutton went on to add: “Solid is a good way of describing these players because first and foremost, it will be a season of consolidation for Wrexham.”

Isaak Davies and Ollie Tanner’s stats for Cardiff City in 2024/25

Although Cardiff endured a torrid 2024/25 season, they had a few bright sparks. One was Robinson who scored 12 goals in 34 league games, ending the campaign as their top scorer.

Davies meanwhile missed the bulk of the season through injury whilst Tanner didn’t do all that much. Their stats for the 2024/25 season might well prove Prutton correct.

But Parkinson needs solid players to bolster his side. There are eight first-team players leaving Wrexham as free agents this summer and signing players like Davies and Tanner, whilst not all that exciting, boosts the numbers in the squad, and provides vital depth in what is a very long and arduous Championship campaign.
