Wrexham had a pretty quiet end to the January transfer window but on deal was completed on deadline day.

The Red Dragons, after a slow start, got the majority of their transfer business done in the days prior to the window slamming shut.

Following a failed move for Michael Smith, Wrexham turned their attention to other centre-forward targets.

Jay Rodriguez joined from Burnley while the Welsh outfit smashed their transfer record to sign in-form League One ace Sam Smith from Reading.

Prior to strengthening their forward line, Wrexham brought in Ryan Longman to compete at right-wing-back – a move that has already paid off.

Meanwhile, there were a number of exits from the Racecourse Ground over the course of the winter window, one of which was confirmed on Monday evening.

Wrexham agreed to let Anthony Forde leave by mutual consent after he had struggled for game time and was not registered in their 22-man League One squad in the first half of 2024/25.

Wrexham fans react as Anthony Forde departs on deadline day

Forde joined the Red Dragons from Oxford United in 2022 and was key to them winning back-to-back promotions.

In turn, with news of his departure confirmed, Wrexham fans have taken to social media to wish the right-sided midfielder well.

One fan wrote: “All the very best to you and your family Fordey, part of the historic back to back promotions and always put a shift in.”

A second added: “Fantastic player, all the best Fordey,” while a third echoed: “Best wishes to you and your family, Fordey.”

A fourth Wrexham supporter wrote: “Top top player. Class,” with another adding: “Class act! You’ll always have fans in Philly. Best of luck, Anthony, with all things.”

Another Red Dragons fan stated: “Wishing you nothing but the best Fordey. Thank you for the memories.”

While a seventh added: “Good luck to you and your family Fordy! Scored one of the most important goals I can remember vs Yeovil.”

Next Wrexham star to leave already clear

Forde was a good servant to the club but as Wrexham continue to reach higher and higher, more tough decisions will need to be made.

The 31-year-old is the latest in a long list of previously key players who have now departed the club after falling out of favour.

And while more exits will now have to wait until the end of the season, it’s clear Will Boyle will be next on the chopping block.

Boyle has hardly featured in 2024/25 and is now the sixth-choice centre-back option at very best.
