A former Wrexham player excelled in midweek for a rival club during a 3-1 win over Chelsea’s U21s.

After beating Hull City earlier this month, Phil Parkinson’s side were once again in Carabao Cup action in midweek.

Wrexham beat Preston North End 3-2 in the second round of the competition thanks to goals from Ryan Hardie, Harry Ashfield and Kieffer Moore.

A number of former players who have left the Racecourse Ground in the current transfer window were also in midweek action.

Paul Mullin featured for Wigan Athletic vs Wrexham’s rivals, Stockport County, playing 74 minutes of a 1-0 win for the Latics.

Meanwhile, Will Boyle was also lined out for his new side on August 26.

Will Boyle scores first goal since Wrexham exit

Boyle secured a move to Shrewsbury Town earlier this summer, dropping down to League Two to link up with one of the Dragons’ rivals.

It has been a pretty mixed start to the 2025/26 campaign for the centre-back.

Boyle was sent off for Shrewsbury during a 4-0 defeat versus Tranmere Rovers in early August.

But the defender fared much better this week when he was up against Chelsea’s U21s in an EFL Trophy meeting.

Boyle started in the 3-1 win over the Blues, scoring his first goal for Shrewsbury and earning a match-high 8.1 rating on Sofascore.

Wrexham loanee beats Birmingham City

Boyle and Mullin were not the only players Wrexham have let go this summer who played on Tuesday.

Modou Faal has joined Port Vale on loan for the 2025/26 season after struggling for minutes last term.

He arrived in a record deal from West Brom but was unable to stake a claim to be a regular starter.

Faal is beginning to feature regularly for Port Vale, though, most recently starting as his new team knocked Birmingham City out of the Carabao Cup with a 1-0 win.
