Wrexham secured a win over Preston North End in the Carabao Cup on August 26 with a new signing featuring.

Phil Parkinson made wholesale changes to his Wrexham squad that faced Preston North End.

There was no room on the bench for Ollie Palmer, while fringe players like Jacob Mendy and George Evans started the tie.

It was a slow start for the Dragons, but a stunning Ryan Hardie strike kept them in the match going into half-time after conceding two.

In the end, goals from Harry Ashfield and Kieffer Moore were enough to hand Wrexham a 3-2 win over Preston.

Tuesday’s win saw Callum Doyle handed his first appearance since signing for Wrexham from Manchester City.

Doyle has a buyback clause in his deal, and Man City will earn a percentage of any sale should the Welsh side ever sell him.

He enjoyed a solid debut, completing 60 minutes of football before being taken off by Parkinson.

Wrexham fans praised Doyle heavily during the match, and the defender has now shared his verdict on the supporters who travelled to Preston, as well as Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac.

Speaking to the club’s media post-match, he said: “It’s great. Like I said before, the support here is always going to be great. It’s a great club with great people and great owners, and it’s good to see walking out here with a load of fans.”

Despite having a limited pre-season, the defender brought some much-needed stability to Wrexham’s left-hand side.

After the match, manager Parkinson gave his verdict on Doyle.

He said: “So the squad is getting to where we want it to be, and a special mention to Callum Doyle as well – I thought he was terrific for us.”
